Guest user / being able to log out without deleting files

I"ve set my 11-year old son up as a "guest user" on my iMac. (I don't want him fussing with my stuff.)

But, how can I have him log off without "deleting files?" (We just uploaded a bunch of files for an iMovie project)

  • Can I do this as an "administrator?" If so, how? (Specifically)
  • Can I "switch users" without losing said files? (Presently I am using the Guest User "desktop" to type this missive)

Thanks!

iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9.4), 3.4 Ghz / 32 GB RAM / FCPX 10.1.2

- Go to System Preferences » User & Groups » Click the + icon in the lower left section (unlock with your password if its grayed out)

- An new screen will appear to create a new Account (Managed with Parental Control might work for your kid), complete the fields and click Create User.

- Once done, select the new user, and Open Parental Control (from there you can customize: apps access, web, timers, etc), also access to your desired shared folders.
