iPod Freezing when connected to computer

My problem seems to be similar to all of the other problems people are having with iTunes 7, but I couldn't find something the same as mine, so here's my problem. Whenever I connect my iPod to by Powerbook G4 (this is only after i installed iTunes 7, my ipod shows the 'Do Not Disconnect,' but freezes - the circle with the cross does not flash. I proceed to reset the iPod, after which I can connect to my computer with no problems (iTunes 7 is really annoying, but i assume an update soon?????).

Is my problem an issue with iTunes 7 and will be solved with the supposed update, or does anyone know what might be causing it.

this is an addition to my previous post. My problem has gotton much worse.

I have a powerbook g4. At one point, I accentidadly closed the lid of my laptop when my ipod was connected. When I reconnected my ipod, iTunes told me that it couldn't recognize my iPod, and that i should reset it to it's factory conditions. When I disconnected my iPod (for Finder recognized my iPod, although iTunes didn't), none of the songs showed up, although it said that there was only 5 gigs free. I reconnected my iPod, prepared to reset it, but there was no way to. It said to reset my ipod using the restore button on the summery tab, but since iTunes didn't recognize it, there was no summery tab. Now i have an iPod that works, but doesn't recognize that there is any music on it, and cannot be returned to it's factory conditions.

If anyone knows anything about this, can they please help me?

I have the same problem, a reset is required each time I sync. I use a Gear4 remote, do you? I also have loads of USB devices plugged in do you have many? Let's see what we have in common!

Oh and yes, I think it's related to the recent updates. Great features, lousy quality control.

I've solved mine. A full restore from iTunes 7.1 and it has stopped happening. I was nervous about doing this because the last time I tried to reload everything onto my iPod it would crash every 100 tracks or so, but this time everything worked fine.

Everything seems OK now, I don't think I'll ever update it again!

My 80Gb Video Ipod does the same thing--every time I connect it. Have to reset while in the dock, and once it reboots, the Ipod is recognized by Itunes and everything works fine. Very annoying and appears to be quite a common problem. I'm using a Mac Pro.

A-ha! I hadn't updated my home machine with 7.0.1 ... My bad. Now, after a restore and both machines up to date, everything's good to go.

I've done a full restore and am having the same problem. has this been reported to apple? Is there any way to report issues via email?

Oh wow. I just posted a post about this not realizing that many people were having this problem. Mine shows up in the system profiler, but not in itunes or the desktop. Anyone get that?

Hi Everyone.

I've been having the same problem. i have a 5G ipod.. i did the latest firmware update a while back, and the iTunes 7 update. After that, whenever i connect the ipod to a mac, i see the red circle with a line through, and its not flashing, then the ipod is locked up. only way to make it work is reset the ipod while its connected..
I tried a full restore, and that did not help.. then I pretty much gave up, and hoped that Apple would release new firmware.
In a last attempt of hope, i thought i would connect the ipod to my new makbook pro.. just to see if it was a problem with the imac. well, same again. ugh. rats..!
So, i tried a full restore from this 'new' computer..
This time, i noticed something different.. iTunes decided to download the firmware again, and re-flash the iPod.. (with the same version)
ah.. now it works !!! i went back to the imac.. connected it.. loaded up all my tunes.. and it works.. disconnect.. plug back in.. no freeze !!!!

So, it seems that if you can try another mac, and restore.. or indeed get the firmware to download again, and apply to the iPod.. it just might work !!!

Interesting... I'm seeing a similar iPod freeze pretty much every time I connect it to my Mac Pro. I've tried connecting with my Universal Dock, without the Dock, and via all my Mac Pro's USB ports. Nothing seems to help; I need to reset the iPod every time. Its pretty frustrating...

I do have another Mac (a 20" iMac Core Duo) so this weekend I'll try connecting the iPod to it and see if doing a resore from there helps... Ugh. Hopefully Apple will figure this out and fix it SOON.
