iOS 8 on iPad2

Now that I have updated my iPad2 to iOS8 rendering it slower and more sluggish than before, what can I expect?

Must I throw it away, or is there any way to improve performance to get back to at least iOS7?

You cannot revert to an earlier iOS since it is not supported by Apple. You can try a few basic troubleshooting steps in order to help with the sluggishness. If the basic steps don't help, backup your iPad, restore the iPad to factory settings, then restore the backup. If that doesn't work, restore as new and rebuild your iPad from scratch.

Start here. Clear Safari, close all apps, reset the iPad. Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data.

In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.

Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

This may help as well. Reset all settings. You will not lose any data, but most of the device settings will have to be entered in the settings app again. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settings.

Restoring the iPad.....

Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings

Thanks for your reply.

I have now run the ipad for several hours and unfortunately it has, if anything, become worse. It has now rebooted itself without warning during surfing on the net. Still equally sluggish and slow.

The update to iOS8 has been a "disaster" for my machine and the option would of course be to revert to the previous OS. But this is not possible due to...what? Why can't I choose? This, amongst many odd things, makes it hard to warm to Apple products.

So I am now left with a product I do not use with pleasure. Solution? Throw it away.

I understand updating software is motivation for consumers to upgrade their machine park. And so I shall. Now I can buy that Samsung Galaxy Tab S I've had my eye on for since I got this iPad.

Thanks anyhow.

I face the same situation as above mentioned, but I've found a temp solution of it. I hope you guys might aware of it, if not then kindly check out iMobie site where you'll find program call Phone Clean Pro.

Now imnot advertising any sort of, I did felt the same way when I update my iPad 2 WiFi model and after a day or so I realize that 512mb isn't enough to run iOS smoothly. Try Cleaning up some unnecessary files using Phone Clean Pro,will help your iPad runs smoothly but not as smooth as iOS 7.

I mean you don't have to put .exe file onto your iPad, Just install it on your Windows PC, connect your iPad to your PC through given data cable and wipe unnecessary files from it, It will reduce lag at some point but still iOS 8 is buggy so don't expect much from a software. It does it's job just fine. After moving from iOS 7.1.2 to iOS 8; i've removed 700+ mb of files which kinda helpful to run day to day task with ease.

- When you run this program, it will actually shows you, which files will going to be removed, most of the time it's Facebook, and Safari cache files which makes device slower yet laggy.

I've been using these for last year and half, buy premium version to get extra feature for wiping without loosing any sort of data or anything.

Btw sorry for the late reply...
