I am buying the mini mac next week and have downloadedfiles from old PC using windows. do I need any accessory to load onto mini mac?

Depends what kind of files. If you mean Word or spreadsheet documents then you will need to get MS office for Mac or some freeware like OpenOffice to read and write. If you mean PDF files your Mac already can read those.

How is the external drive formatted? Mac can't read NTFS drives. So you would likely need to get an NTFS reader App on the Mac to view your files on the external drive if it is formatted NTFS.

The External drive should plug into the mini just as it does the HP via USB.

Sure they can, they just can't write to them.

New Macs come with Pages (and KeyNote and Numbers). Pages can read Word document and, as an option, can save/send a document in Word format.

As far as i knew, not directly, they need an NTFS driver like Tuxera or is that just for writing?

They need the driver (Tuxera or similar) to enable writes, they can read without it.

I'm going to advise strongly against the use of Pages with Word files, it is easily the worst alternative out there for that. And its superiors are free. If Word and its files are not involved in any way then Pages is excellent
