apple tv weak or no signal ethernet

We have successfully used AppleTV with wifi and with ethernet cable. We ignored the message that our AppleID password was not correct, not knowing what to do about it. Today AppleTV shows a screen with a USB cable pointing to an iTunes logo, coming out of the audio output connector on AppleTV. We can restart AppleTV (Menu and Down for six seconds) which takes us back to the USB cable and the iTunes logo. The router is working with two other computers in the house. Occasionally there is a screen that directs us to go to Settings and enter the correct password, but we have no idea how to do this. Can anyone help?
