How to take a MAC screenshot and paste to word

There is a lot of good information on how to take a screen shot (and it works) BUT not on how to PASTE a screen shot. How do you paste a screen shot?

Depends on what you're on. If you're on the Chrome browser go up to the "Edit" drop down and select "Select All". Then click on"Copy" and the entire page that the browser is on will be selected and copied to the clipboard. Go to say, work select where you want it to go and select paste.

So I'm in Word 2011:

I open the screen shot and type "command - a" . The Mac selects the entire screen shot. I type "command - c" and the Mac copies the screenshot to the clipboard.

I go to Word open a document. Select where I want the picture/screenshot to go and type the paste paste command (command - v).

Alternately you can go to the "insert" drop down menu in Word and select picture from file. Find your screenshot on the desktop and click on it to select it and click the "open" button.

When I do it that way it helps to rename the screen shot. (Especially for me since I have 20 or so laying on my desktop.)

Thanks for this. I took a screenshot using Command (⌘)-Shift-3. they are all getting saved on the desktop.. how do i make them save on another folder elsewhere on the computer? thanks so much!!

It seems that you can only directly save the screenshots to desktop, saving to another folder on computer is impossible. Since I have tried that before but failed. Lucky me, I searched in Google and find some alternatives ways to take screenshot on Mac and save in any desired folder, such as Skitch, Monosnap and more. They all works fine on capturing image and making quick edits.

To have screenshots save to another location, as with many things, you can utilize Mac's powerful Terminal application to change this function. If you start Spotlight search (the magnifying glass at the top right of the screen) you can type "terminal" (without the quotes) to launch the application.

You can type "defaults write com.apple.screencapture location /path/to/new/location" (again without the quotes)

Then type "killall SystemUIServer" to apply the changes. ( This simply restarts the UI with the new settings applied)

For example I changed my Mac to store screenshots in a folder in my pictures so my command looked like

"defaults write com.apple.screencapture location /Users/username/Pictures/ScreenShots"

Command Explanation:

Defaults: is a program which handles user preferences in the Macintosh system.

write: is a command specific to the Defaults program which tells defaults to write the following changes to the specified application

com.apple.screencapture: is the package designation for Apple's screen shot application

/Users/username/Pictures/ScreenShots: is the path to the new location for the screen shot. Obviously you would replace "username" with your account name.

The terminal is a powerful tool baked into the Macintosh system. I would recommend taking a dive into google to see all the cool things you can do with your system through this application.
