Q: I cannot change my icloud ID

Hi - don't even ask me how it happened, but my icloud account seems to have been set up with a long defunct email address. I have no access to the email account and I don't know what password was originally used to set up icloud. I have a new iPhone 6 and I can't dissable 'Find my Phone' in order reset my account settings and set icloud up with my current email address (the same one that is my current Apple ID and the one I use for iTunes. It's a bit of nightmare  - any ideas?

If your ID is a @icloud.com, @mac.com or @me.com address you cannot change it.

I have a problem that i honestly cannot get my head round. You see, i have the same problem as this guy however the email i used for my icloud cannot be used as my primary email once i go to manage my icloud. The email i am trying to use finishes in icloud.com and is an apple domain and therefore it does not let me save the changes so i can then go on to delete my account  :/ i have no idea what to do, everything else is registered with the apple id i want to use, my app store, itunes, imessage, facetime etc. Anybody know how to help?

The default icloud apple ID on my new iphone 6s is my old @mac.com account that is no longer viewed as a valid email address, so I can't sign into icloud with my current email address and edit it via manage.

Is there any way to change this? I cannot access any of my photosharing streams with family because I can't get icloud to recognize my current account.

    Help!

Love the "don't verify..." part..., but can't get past it. The thing wants verification... Yahoo won't allow creating the old email address in order to verify same... so what I have now is a POS... Fancy POS, but POS nonetheless...

I ended up calling Apple ID Security team and they were able to verify me to that account, access it and send me the link to reset the password so could change it, shut off "Find My Phone" on my phone and then delete the account. I was able to then sign back in with my current Apple ID and it worked.

Does not work because a verification of the change is requested whivh obviously I cannot do. So I am still stuck with a defunct icloud account blocking restoring of my phone. Any further advice?

This all came about with this latest update!

Now my phone is locked out of both ID's.  And the other ID has been obsolete for 2 years! So WHY did it end up on my phone after the update!

So I have spent HOURS trying to fix this.  Nothing here works.  It caused both ID's to get locked and all it caused me was circles of making new passwords.

Thanks Apple!  I am already not impressed with the product! Thanks for doing this to us with the last update!

    I found a solution:

    1. Sign into your current Apple ID https://appleid.apple.com/ and change your Apple ID email address to the old one your iPad or iPhone is using.
    2. Try logging into your account on your iPad or iPhone again using the email and password you changed.
    3. This should log you in.
    4. Sign out of this account after logging in.
    5. Now go back to your Apple ID https://appleid.apple.com/and change your apple ID email address to the current one you would like to use.
    6. Sign into iCloud on your iPhone or iPad using your new Apple ID.
    7. Problem solved.

    Hope this helps!

when I tried to change the apple id email it asks for a verification code which is sent to the old email address, so I don't think this will work.

You might want to consider starting a new discussion. Since this one is a couple of years old, less people are likely to look at it. A new post would be much more visible. You can link to this one.
