Q: iOS 8.0.2

10/10/14 - New twist today - Phone home screen is stuck on iTunes icon with a picture of the charger.  What am I supposed to do with that?  I tried factory reset 3 times to restart phone.

Updated I-phone to IOS 8.0.  Trying to update to iOS 8.0.2 and in the middle of the download, I disconnect from Wi-Fi and cannot turn in on manually.  Eternally trying to download same update.  Tried hitting resume download, but still won't connect to Wi-Fi.  Have lost touch capability and had to factory reset twice yesterday.  Today I cannot text.  Anyone know a work-around so my phone will work?

iPhone 4S, iOS 8

That screen indicates you need to plug the device into a computer running a current version of iTunes to recover.

I don't have a computer with an apple platform.  I have an ipad and an iphone, both with some age on them (not quite 2 years to be exact).  Phone is not eligible for upgrade until March 2015.  8.0.2 pretty much screwed up everything I have.  I've asked for help from Apple (twice) to downgrade my 4S iphone back to some version of 7 that will actually run on my phone, but no one has answered either of those requests,  The clerk at Radio Shack says it cannot be done and that is how Apple gets you to buy a new phone.  NEWSFLASH - it won't be an Apple!  Any other ideas on the iTunes issue or do I have to try to install iTunes on my Hewlitt Packard computer?

You don't need an Apple computer.  A Windows computer running iTunes will work just fine.   Yes you need to install iTunes for Windows on your HP.

    https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

And, no rolling back to a previous version of iOS has never been possible.

By the way, I have friends using an iPhone 4s that updated to iOS 8 without any issues. I updated an iPhone 5 that I use daily to iOS 8 again without issues.

Whatever your iPhone may be if it was offered the update it is because it can support it without issues. Its very possible the orignial upgrade did not install properly, but a Restore through iTunes should take care of that.

    1. There is a version of iTunes for Windows: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/. Unless you are still running ME, it shouldn't present a problem.
    2. I have three dozen colleagues (in addition to my own iOS devices) running iOS 8.0.2 on a variety of devices, including several 4s iPhones. No issues. 8 will run on approved devices, and the issue you are experiencing currently could have occurred on any device with any iOS update. It is not at all typical, but happens. You do have fix available.
    3. "The clerk at Radio Shack says..." and you actually believe him?

Thanks for your help!  I will have to install iTunes on my computer at home.  I have had excellent luck with my iphone until these last two ios versions.  Now it disconnects from the internet, battery drain, loses ability for touch screen function, won't synch with my Jetta anymore, turns into a camera when I try to power off, the list is endless.  I downloaded all my pictures so I could throw it out the window without regret.  Thus far, (two weeks - yet a long way from March 2015 when I can get another phone) I have managed to restrain myself.  Thank you for your advice to resurrect this phone yet again - I'm going to start calling it a Lazarus phone.
