Internet Account for iMail fails to enable on Mac Mini OS X Mavericks

I get the following alert box when trying to enable iCloud Mail account : "Your iCloud Mail account could not be enabled" "Try enabling again." I am running OS X V 10.9.5 on a Mini Mac. I orginally had iCloud mail working on this Mac and wanted to use Notes with the account. When I tried enabling Notes I get the same alert Box, that it can not be enabled. I had read that Notes will not enable unless, Mail is also enabled for iCloud. Reasoning that perhaps for some odd reason the iCloud email account had not been properly enabled the first time (even though I have sent and received mail from the iCloud account) - I unchecked Mail in the iCloud Internet Accounts window and then attempted to re-enable Mail by rechecking the box, but it fails to enable every time I try checking the Box. I can access iCloud email via Safari and send or receive mail. I have the same iCloud email account enabled on my iPad Mini, with the same Apple ID and password, and it works fine. I can find absolutely nothing on line or in Apple Support that addresses this problem. Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this?

Thanks for the pointer on this problem. Unfortunately the procedure recommended would not work for me. The steps recommended contained and error regarding how to access the library folder in Mavericks - but I found the correct procedure for that. The file this person had discovered to be corrupted was not corrupted on my system and so the problem remains just as I previously described. I do appreciate your help.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

View ▹ Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try to enable iCloud Mail. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

I have yosemite and can't get mail, contacts, calendars, contacts, reminders or notes to enable. Im managed to get safari enabled and keychain. I tried to follow some of the online help and got as far as this..is it something to do with my user id settings somewhere. Any help much appreciated.
