Try these steps in this order and see if any of them help.

Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History and Website Data

Now close all apps. In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.

Next, reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

If those three things made no difference, try this. Reset all settings. You will not lose any data, but most of the device settings will have to be entered in the settings app again. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settings.

If all of that fails, restore the iOS software. Backup your iPad before you restore, then restore the backup when you are done. If that still doesn't help, restore your iPad as new and start all over again. Most purchased content can be downloaded again at no charge as long as you use the same Apple ID and as long as the content is still available in the store.

Sadly, none of that will work. It's an issue with 8.0.2. AND, you can't go back to iOS 7. Apple is no longer signing that, so you can't reinstall it without jailbreaking your iPad. We have to just sit, wait and curse and hope that they fix this...

Same here with iPad and iPhone5. I'm also having problems with wifi quits working, have to reboot to reconnect to wife. Long delay after entering passcode. Restored my iPad as new, still have same issues.

You can't make a blanket statement claiming that none of that will work. Maybe it doesn't work for you, but the OP won't know until he tries the steps. I have seen some of those steps work for a number of other users. I have read a number of posts where users restored their iPads and that straightened things out. Not every iPad is being used under the same circumstances, so we have no way of knowing if it will or won't work until Jm23ur tries it.

I have an iPad 3 running iOS 8.0.2 and I have had some issues with it...mainly with the keyboard, auto correct and spell check, but for the most part, my iPad is running OK.

Let me ask you this - is your iPad 3 running anywhere near as well as it ran on iOS7 - or in that case, iOS6?

I guess I was hoping to save that person some time. I've tried with iPad 2s, iPad Minis, my iPhone 4S. The problems are not settings. The problems are with the OS. With an iPhone 6 and a 4S side by side, running iOS 8, having restored the 4 and iPads etc, nothing works. What you suggest WILL make things better regardless - but won't solve the problems that brought them here. There is a deep flaw in iOS8 for stuff running on A5 chips. I hope they fix it with 8.1. Right now I have several iOS devices that might be more fun to use as skeet than communications devices...

At least, this has been my experience. The more people that report the problem, the faster it will get fixed.

I'm not denying that there are people that are having problems with iOS 8. My iPad is not quite as responsive as it was when it was running iOS 7, and I expect that given that the iPad 3 has the A5 processor. But all in all, with the exception of some really weird bugs with the keyboard, my iPad is running fine. I hope that the next update fixes those wierd issues.

I am simply saying that you can't say that none of what I suggested will work. It does work for some people on some devices.

Here's something from a user here on this forum today ...

SOLVED:  IOS 8 Issues on iPad 2:

I just returned home from a visit to the Genius Bar. Like you and many others, when I upgraded my iPad 2 to IOS 8, it became practically unusable. It was VERY slow, lagged whenever trying to to do anything. Lots of screen freezes and apps spontaneously crashing. I was convinced that the processor on the iPad 2 just couldn't handle the new IOS and I went in to see about restoring to IOS 7.

Thankfully, I was hooked up with a very sharp guy at the bar. The problem is not with the OS, it is with it being an *upgraded* OS. He used the analogy of when you had an older Windows computer and how over time (and over upgrades), they just tended to get slower and slower because of all of the garbage that was carried forward in the upgrades. At those times (and if you've ever had a Windows computer, you get this), the only thing that would speed it up would be to wipe the machine and do a fresh install of the current OS and then reload your apps, and the viola, everything would be fast again. Well, it turns out that IOS can suffer the same problems.

THE FIX:  FIRST, be sure you have a current iCloud backup of your device.  Connect your iPad to a computer that has a clean fresh copy of IOS 8 on iTunes (this is best done with a computer other than the one that you sync your device to because you DO NOT want to restore it from a back up just yet). Ideally, if you do this at an Apple store you'll be assured of the right version there and someone to answer any questions you might have along the way. You then hold the power and home button down to hard-reset the device and continue to hold them down until it reboots into recovery mode. You then follow the instructions on the computer to reinstall the OS on the device (which wipes everything from it and then reinstalls a clean copy of it). Once this is done (which only takes about 15 minutes), your device will reboot and ask you to set it up. Answer the questions about language, location, etc. and continue until it asks you to log into your iTunes account. Once you do that, it will ask if you want to either 1) Set it up as a new device, 2) Restore from iCloud, or 3) Restore from iTunes. Choose (2), restore from iCloud. This will ensure that it brings down "clean" copies of all of your apps and preferences rather than the potentially corrupted ones that might reside in your iTunes backup. That's it! It will take a few hours depending on how much data and apps you have, but I am happy to report that my iPad 2 is now running IOS 8 and it's running as fast as it ever did when it was brand new!

To sum it up, this process 1) Wipes your device and the garbage causing your problems, 2) Loads a clean and bug-free version of IOS 8 to your device, and 3) restores your apps and data so that it looks just like it did before the wipe, with the exception that it works now!  :-)

Note also that by following this process you don't have to go through the painful and laborious process of reloading all of your apps, data and/or settings. iCloud takes care of all of that for you.

I upgraded my iPad 2 to IOS 8.0.2 and still have all of the problems described, plus another annoying thing: my cell crevice shows " no service". When I reboot the iPad, the service comes back, but goes away after the cover is closed and iPad open again. this problem is SO ANNOYING!!!

Does it have all those same problems when you test your iPad out in the factory default condition without putting your backup on your iPad?

I Don't know what Genius Bar keithfrommarietta went to, but some of the information that he posted is incorrect. He may have misunderstood, or the Apple Genius may have given him bad information.

Where do you expect to get a "fresh, clean" copy of the software unless you download it in iTunes first?  You don't have to restore the backup when you restore the iOS and you most certainly do not need to use somebody else's computer in order to restore the iPad to factory settings.

Restoring a corrupt iCloud backup is no different than restoring a corrupt iTunes backup. If the backup is bad, it's bad no matter where it is stored - iCloud or iTunes. Apps are NOT stored in the iTunes backup. App data is stored in the backup, mbut not the apps themselves and once again, if the data is corrupt, it doesn't matter where the backup came from. Read this about iTunes backups.

    iTunes: About iOS backups

I agree that a fresh install of the iOS is probably the best thing to do, but some of this information just isn't correct.

Did it. Didn't do a thing to help. The problem is with iOS 8. They will HAVE to fix this at Apple. I am hoping strongly that 8.1 tomorrow takes care of it. I have never wanted to throw my iPad across the room before...
