    Hi lisaphiljamesben,

If your iPod classic is freezing up and suggesting you contact support, I would suggest that you attempt to restore the iPod from disk mode. See this article for how to do so -

iPod Displays a Red "X" Icon

If the above does not get your iPod up and running, you should contact Apple about it. Use the methods on this page -

iPod classic - Contact Us - Apple Support

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

    Best,

    Hello,

My only advice if your Ipod is not covered by Apple Care is: Don't buy a reconditioned product from them. I did it and they screw me over $180. They sent me a new ipod guaranteed 3 months. Here I am 4 months after the ipod stopped working, the genius bar told me it was coming from the internal hard drive so clearly a technical problem coming from Apple and they won't exchange it for free.

Also I had the same issue as you and your Ipod is pretty much dead. i'm sorry but might as well be prepared.

    Best,

    Leslie

after more than 3 weeks and really bad mode because of my lovely ipod is showing this red X and after throwing it so many times in home and work, i put the ipod in the freeze and forgot it for three days. then, i smack it with my wallet and it is working fine. I'm uploading my musics in the playlists now
