seagate backup plus external hd won't unmount for reformmating

If you are having an issue with Disk Utilitiy not unmounting an external hard drive in order for you to reformat it, I would suggest that you restart both the computer and the hard drive and try again. See this article for reference -

In case this issue was not resolved:

1 - Get Info on the drive;

2 - check the checkbox on lower left to "Ignore Ownership..." - make sure check mark shows in the box

3 - Close the get info window

You should now be able to reformat the drive

Periodically confirm that the checkbox is still checked. My Seagate Backup Plus 8tb drive keeps turning this function off...
