Q: My iPad Pages, Numbers, and Keynote apps Stopped Syncing with iCloud Drive

My iPad Air (iOS 8.0.2) is synced with my iCloud Drive, and all of its apps (Notes, Contacts, Calendar, etc.) sync perfectly with iCloud Drive... except for Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.

When I open Pages, Numbers, or Keynote on my iPhone 6 (iOS 8.0.2), my Mac (Yosemite beta), or my iCloud.com page, all files are there and all apps sync perfectly with one another. It's just Pages, Numbers, and Keynote on my iPad that refuses to sync. When I open my iPhone Pages app, I even see the text "Updating" at the top of the screen. But not on my iPad version.

I even factory restored my iPad and started all over again. And for a moment, the Pages app got something. A few docs and one folder appeared. But then it stopped again. And I haven't been able to repeat the process.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I received an email from the iWork team asking for details on the problem - which for me occurs only with Pages.  I cannot seem to leave it alone and wait for a fix however. This morning I deleted the Pages app from my iPhone, then re-downloaded it, but this time I did not select use with iCloud. The app works perfectly without iCloud enabled for it! So my problems with it crashing every 30 seconds, not uploading all my files from Drive, and sluggish typing and formatting are all linked to iCloud and Drive.

This means I cannot work on files on both my devices - but I did find that I can either email a new doc created in Pages without iCloud to myself and open it on my MacBook Air - or, I can actually send a new Pages doc to  Pages in Drive by using the 'send a copy' function, but selecting  a new 'send to' folder icon which allows me to send it manually to Drive so I can access it on my Air!

To send Pages docs from my MacBook Air to my iPhone I use airdrop!  It works like a dream!

So, no automatic Drive access to files between devices, but I can work on current projects now!

I am seeing some strange non-sync issues.

Mac at work using keynote, update presentations.  my iPhone sees updates correctly.

My Mac at home does not see updates I made today.  I remote control into my work mac and you can see the issue from the screenshot.  Notice how the MDG Sales Meeting November 2014 has a date that is not in sync?

Well I learned something from Macworld - apparently when you go into the Pages app and click on the + sing in the upper left, that takes you to a spot where you can access all files on Drive.  From there you are supposed to be able to click on a file and open it in the Pages IOS app.  Unfortunately, that's when my Pages IOS app crashes.  As for all my Drive apps downloading to the Pages IOS app.... well no.  I have 10 showing but only one of those can be opened.  Well eventually it might work.  I am a very patient person.  For now, its back to Box.com and Dropbox.

Interesting! I never touched the big "+" because I assumed it served the same purpose as the smaller "+" just below it. The one that creates a new document. A rare screw-up in visual design for apple..

Well, just thought i would pop in here again for a moment as I decided to try this again for the new year. I can now create a document on my iPhone IOS 8.1.2 and in about 30 seconds it appears on iCloud Drive/Pages on my Yosemite MacBook Air - if i edit that one on my MB Air, the edit of the doc appears on my iPhone about 2 minutes later.  But none of the docs i have saved in iCloud on my Yosemite MB Air have appeared on my iPhone.  And the Pages app on the phone crashes every minute or so.  When I had iCloud turned off for the Pages app, it never crashed.

For the past two months I have been using Dropbox for my cloud storage - docs sync immediately there - so I guess I will turn iCloud off for Pages once again, and try again in a month or two.

And another try - today March 8, 2015 -the  Pages app on my iPhone 5 links with Drive ok, but still crashes in 30 seconds... so the problem is not yet fixed and I would guess never will be....
