Q: iPad activation

After updating the iOS on my iPad, it went into recovery mode and I cannot get past the activation log in. It seems that the apple id that it is linked to has been disabled, it was an old one that my wife never uses anymore. It would not let us reset the password but we were able to create a new apple id using the same email and that still wont work. We've had this iPad for a couple of years so it is not an issue of a previous owner locking the iPad.

    Hi thebrad18,

There are a number of ways you can reset your Apple ID's password, one of which you have already tried. See this article for some others -

If you forgot your Apple ID password

    Specifically -

    Answer your security questions

    1. Select “Answer security questions,” then select Next.
    2. Select your birth date, then select Next.
    3. Answer your security questions.
    4. Set a new password and select Reset Password.

Or, if you are using two-step verification -

    Use two-step verification

    1. Enter your Recovery Key.
Verify Your Identity: Step 1 of 2
    2. Choose a trusted device. We'll send your device a verification code.
    3. Enter the verification code.
    4. Set a new password and select Reset Password.

If you permanently lost your recovery key or access to your trusted device, you can't reset your password. Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

    And finally -

    Get help

If these steps didn't help you reset your password, contact Apple Support.

    Best,
