how do i organize iphone photos w/o using icloud on ios8

I don't want to see my pictures on a timeline, I want to see them in albums but I don't know how to create new albums and I don't want to use photostream. I just want the photos on my iphone available on my iphone in an easy to navigate way - and this new date or city feature is not easy organized.

iPhone 5s, iOS 8

This doesn't actually help. I have a some photos that I do not want in the date collection sequence. I want them in a album special album and I can't figure out how to organize any of them. The date sequence that iOS8 put them in is NOT helpful one bit - and I can't seem to change it. And when I look in the "albums" feature at the bottom, 1/2 of my pictures are not even there. I would use the albums feature if I could figure out how to get all of my existing pictures in there without having to activate photostream - I don't need to share these pictures with all my devices.

Sorry, but with the exception of losing the Camera Roll, my photos look no different than they did before. Instead of the Camera Roll, I have Recently Added, and Recently Deleted. The balance of my photos are in folders that I created and synced from my computer. I purposely do not keep many photos in the Camera roll for fear of losing something should the phone malfunction. I would import the photos over to the computer and manage albums from there.

YYou don't organize the photos in itunes. You organize them on your PC. One way to do this is to create a master Photos folder somewhere on your PC. In that folder create folders that will contain photos. Each folder will become an album on your iOS device. Do not create any sub folders in the album folders.

then connect your iOS device to your PC and run itunes on the PC. Select your device and select Photos from the row of tabs that are presented. Carefully reivew the choices. You should be provided with a choice to sync selected folders of photos. You'll need to navigate to your main photo folder to see all the albums you created. Select those albums you want on the iOS device and click on Sync or Apply.

Later, if you want to remove an album repeat the process but deselect the unwanted album. Then click on Apply.

If you want to delete an individual photo, before opening itunes move the photo out of the folder its in on your PC. Then run itunes, connect your device, and click on .sync. Photos no longer in their original folders will be deleted from the albums on your iOS device.

As you have been told, you do not organize photos with iTunes, and the photos are really not handled by iTunes, it is just a helper. You would organize the photos on the computer like you would any files. Just remember, when you select folders in iTunes to sync, iTunes will only sync down one level, in other words, don't create folders within folders. After creating folders with names you want, put the photos in the folders and then sync to the phone. In the Photos tab, just select the individual folders you want. You do not have to sync all folders and all of the thousands that you have on the computer, only the selected ones you want. Just remember that saving photos in the camera roll, or now the recently added, is just inviting problems. That area is very much like volatile memory on the computer. If something happens to the phone and you have to reset, if you do not have those photos imported to the computer or are just relying on the iPhone backup, you could find yourself without photos at all. Import them and then sync back. That way the backup of the photos is the computer folder.

I Remember now, but can I delete the photos on my phone if I want? At one time I had the cloud enabled and I could not manage the pictures from my phone. I would prefer to only have the pics on the phone and not on my pc - and be able to manage albums and pics directly on the phone. I Understand this cannot be done now, but it doesn't stop me from wanting to eliminate using a computer to manage my pictures.

If you sync photos to the phone from the computer, the only way to delete the photos is to do another sync after removing the photos from the list of photos to sync. Eliminating the use of the computer for the pictures could lead to what I described earlier, losing all of the photos all together. Guess that is your decision to make. I'm not exactly sure what changes iOS8 brought about with the creation of albums, but if the link I provided you earlier did not do it, then you can check the user guide. http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1565/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf

Just let me repeat, that you risk losing ALL of your photos doing it this way.
