Tired of Apple's controlling ways and greed. I have My own ringtones. I really hate iTunes and have Napster and cannot use my old ringtones on new iPhone 7. If I knew this I wouldn't have bought it!
This is the end after this Phone of ANY Apple products for me and my family! I really dislike being forced to buy from my ringtones from m Apple and I cannot even edit like want. Pure 100% greed.
Apple you are killing yourself! I am finished. Next Phone is a non-Apple. All Apple computers and iPads are history in this family. Good-by

Start by reposting using standard punctuation so that your post is understandable.
The steps in the post by WiseJD should guide you through the process. Have you worked through them?
Hi there! This is insane! Bought RINGTONE in iTunes Store on iPhone 5 running iOS 8.3. Tried for 15 mins to activate sound (27 secs) as ringtone. Used your description to change extension to .m4r. Re-import puts the file under music no matter what. iTunes 12.1.2 seems the know the trick. W?T?F???
Result: This does not make any sense! Why would iTunes Store sell ringtones at 0,99 € that only a complete nerd will be able to use on his iPhone by spending 30 mins hacking!? What is the problem here? Does Apple not want their phones to ring in any other sound than the build in tones!?
Right W?T?F? I purchased a song from I tunes, then
try for 4 hours trying to add it as my Husband's ringtone . this making so crazy and if take a tutorial YouTube one more time I going lose it- Screaming Help!!!!
If you purchased a song, rather than a ringtone, then you need to follow the information in the post from WiseJD to convert the song to a ringtone. There are other methods as well, including using software such as Garageband on the Mac computer or directly on the phone or iPad.
Thanks I going try wise JD instruction and hope I have my song from I tunes as my husband ringtone , it was wedding song 🙂
Hi Was the song you download a ringtone or a full song If it was a ringtone go to applerestoretonesapple.com Cheers Brian
i was able to add the new tone created by me to the tones library
but when i try to sync it to my iphone6 it says -- " XXX" WAS NOT COPIED TO THE IPHONE BECAUSE IT CANNOT BE PLAYED ON THIS IPHONE
what did i miss..
someone please reply
I when I go to file and create a new version I have the create AAC version option. The problem is it's grey so I cant click it so i can't have a choice to do that can you please help me. I am using Windows
I plugged my iPhone in and had already downloaded the song I wanted to use as a Ringtone, but whenI tried to follow the directions given, and played the song I want to add as a Ringtone, Cmd I does not work. When I do Cmd I, nothing happens. Any help will be appreciated.
I have done all of this and I still can't get my song to add to my ringtones. Everytime I go to ringtones in iTunes, I click on add to library and try to add the song but it doesn't add. It shows up in iTunes that it is ther but not able to add to tones. It is really frustrating!!!!
There is another way which I believe to be much easier judging by the sheer number of steps listed previously.
1) Open garage band, select new project
2) Drag mp3/AAC file into garage band project
3) Trim song to length by clicking and dragging on either end of the blob to get the right section of music. (no more that 40 seconds)
4) Click export to itunes as ringtone
5) sync to phone
I am aware you need a mac to do this so sorry if anyone reading is using a PC.
so what do you do when itunes will not splice a song at all to make one. ??? these instructions become pointless at that point so whats next???
Thanks for this tip! I was having an awful time getting a ring tone made and this was simple!
