Why is the iPhone cheaper from Apple store than elsewhere?

Hi there, possible silly question for you here!

Why is the iPhone 5C £319 from apple and £399 from the likes of Carphone Warehouse or Virgin Mobile??

What am I missing?

Having been with Virgin for a very long time and using basic phones I need something that's going to let me do what I need on the go without lagging and crashing so I'm going for an iPhone...possibly the 5C.

Do you think Virgin would supply me with a sim to go in the iPhone if I bought it from Apple??

Hope you can help!?!?!

Karl.

It all comes down to margin - Apple don't set the price for their "distributors" so to speak - the only content they can control directly is the selling price they offer it to the public for, and then the price they charge their resellers to purchase the phone from them.

Most businesses will be wanting to make a certain percentage of margin - which will vary from company to company. If Virgin have decided they have to make X% on each handset, then they'll charge the price that does that for them.

If you are on a contract then I would suggest you go to a phone accessory shop and get them to cut down your sim for you so it fits in the iPhone 6 if that's what you want to do, or just wait until your contract expires then buy the handset outright and put any sim you like in it.

If Apple has decided to sell the 5C at £319 ( as shown on UK store) it will be NOT carrier locked and will work with any of the UK Apple Approved carriers ,including Virgin

(forget CPW their units will lock to the first carrier sim used )

I imagine if you have a contract Virgin will provide the correct sim provisioned for your number ,but ask them first
