uupdated to iOS 8 and now I can't take a screen shot with my iPhone 5! Any idea what's going on? My lock key seems to not be working consistently either.
Try rebooting and see if that helps: Press and hold BOTH the power and home buttons at the SAME time. Keep holding until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and your iPad will reboot.

Sure....holding the home bottom down and then hitting the lock button. Pretty sure the problem is my lock button. I got it to take a screen shot twice. But the button is sticking 9/10 times. Not sure how to fix thE lock button.
You're doing it right, so that leads to it sound like a hardware issue. You should take your phone to the Apple Genius Bar and have them look at it for you. This is a replacement for some iPhone 5 and maybe your serial number is included.
