on logic (music software) with normal headphones plugged in i can still use the laptop built in mic, but with these new ones that have a built in mic in the headset, it automatically disables the built in laptop mic. how do i disable this and only use the laptop mic whilst the headset is plugged in?

You can only do that by opening Sound preferences and clicking on the Input tab. If you have an option of switching the input source to the Mac instead of the headset, then try that.
I have a couple of headsets. One is BT and the other USB. Both have the option of switching the mic input in Sounds' Input options. I'm not using a headset at the moment, but I do have a Logitech camera with built-in mic. In Sounds I can switch from my computer's mic to the one on the camera.
oh i see. the thing is with usb microphones i can easily switch between laptop mic and usb mic as i have the option to, but these are just normal headphones (sony ones) so i have no idea how to go about this or if its possible
thanks, but i have and it doesn't give any differentiating option. as in it doesn't specify any difference whether they headset is plugged in or not
Probably not possible as the connector on your headset with mic has a different connector that disables the internal microphone.
