Q: I lost my data after upgrading to version 8.02

I upgraded to ios 8 and it forced me to restore to manufacturer level. Now, my computer doesn't recognize that it has a back up of the iphone. How can I get my data back?

iPhone 5s, iOS 8

Did you have a backup on either your computer or iCloud? If you didn't then your content is lost.

I backed up and synced on my computer before and I can see some .ipa files under iTune media directory. But the computer doesn't recognize any back ups.

.ipa files are app downloads; they are not backups. Backups are SQLite databases. The locations are not in the iTunes library, but are listed in this tip: iTunes: About iOS backups. To restore a backup connect your phone to your computer, click on its name in iTunes, and click Restore backup.

and I did so, but the restore backup is grayed out and doesn't let me restore. It doesn't recognized that I already backed up. How can I check if the computer does really have a backup. Where can I look for the backup files?

Click the link I provided. The Apple knowledge base article lists the location of the backup for different operating systems.
