If this "normal mode" is a menu provided by the Epson driver, then you may not be using the Epson driver. For printers that support Apple's AirPrint technology for printing from iOS, when you add these printers in OS X 10.9 the default driver selected is the AirPrint driver. To check if you are using this driver, open Printers & Scanners and select the Epson. The right pane will show information about the printer and you should see an entry called Kind. If you see the word AirPrint in this entry, then this indicates that you added the printer using the AirPrint driver.
The solution is to remove this printer from Printers & Scanners and select to add again. When you click the plus button to add the printer ensure that you do not select the Epson that can appear in the small window with a heading of Nearby Printers. Instead, you must select "Add printer or scanner" to see the Default add printer window. Here you can select the Epson XP-410 and if the Use menu selects the AirPrint driver, change the drop menu to select the Epson-XP410 driver. Then you can click Add to complete the printer creation.
