iPhone 6, Unknown Error 56, RED iTunes logo, stuck in recovery mode, won't restore, ios 8 - 8.0.2 update fail!

Hi

I just got my new iphone 6 and it was on ios 8 and everything was working fine i guess, i decided to download ios 8.0.2 as it was a brand new phone and i wanted the newest software on it to fix all the bugs just incase i had them.

i started the update process from the phone, and before the update was complete, i'd say 80% or so along the way, the phone goes into recovery mode displaying a red itunes logo and the cable on the screen.i tried all the suggestions out there and even googled and youtubed to try and find a solution with no luck. even did a few searches on this forum as this is the place i usually come to get most of my answers.

here is what i did in attempts to fix this.

tryed restoring through itunes on both recovery mode and DFU mode, with both ios 8.0 and ios 8.0.2 files.

let itunes re-download the update file just incase i had gotten a bad copy the first time around, tried with that

used 3 different computers, 2 macs and 1 pc

switched usb ports

unplugged all other usb devices

updated itunes and OS

always kept getting the mysterious "unknown error 56" msg searched all over for what that could mean with no luck. the process always seems to stop at the same place, and the second i unplug the phone, it jumps right back into recovery mode with the red itunes logo. if i were in a place that had a genious bar i would've gone there.

i need help fixing this problem please also i'd like to report this error to apple, really wanna do my part to help by reporting at the very least, so also if someone could tell me how to go about doing that, this is just sooo frustrating 😟

any help would be greatly appreciated.

The iPhone warranty has never been international because of the differing regional devices. To ensure you get a device that works within your particular home geographic region, and supports the particular cellular bands used in your country, devices can only be serviced in the country of purchase. It has been that way since the introduction of the iPhone in 2007. While I do not generally bash other companies, I have had experience with Samsung. If you encounter trouble with that device, you can expect to ship it to Samsung for repair/replacement, at cost, while warranty claims with Apple will get your replacement while you wait at Apple, as long as you are within your country of purchase. Even with express shipment of a Samsung device, I was out of a phone for over two weeks. And, their OS updates are few and far between, with many versions not capable of updates.

Took my phone back, the Apple genius guys were very helpful apart from 2 key things:

  1. No apology for their hardware/software being at fault
  2. Kept me waiting for 30 mins whilst they "validated" my phone. Apparently they now open them up as some form of validation - Checking for fakes? Substituted components? Who knows?

Considering it was their software that caused my phone to literally break, I find it pretty disgusting to not get an apology, let alone an iTunes voucher or something for the inconvenience caused

  • Several hours of trying to get the thing to restore/upgrade
  • 45mins on the phone to Apple support
  • 30 mins travel to the Apple Store
  • 1hr total time spent at the store
  • 30 mins back
  • However long it takes me to restore what data I can from itunes/iCloud

A bit of a joke really and not a good way to reward someone that has spent A LOT of money over the years on iPhones, iPads and iMacs....

Apple? Any chance of a response/follow up here?

You can use iTunes to exit recovery mode.

(1) Connect your iPhone to your computer and run iTunes on your computer.

(2) Select your iPhone from the list of buttons at the top of iTunes, then click the "Restore" button.

(3) Wait for the backup and restore process to complete, then "restore from backup" in iTunes after the phone has been restored.

Read Apple support for more details:

If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

NOTE: This method will fix iPhone stuck in recovery mode, but will restore the iPhone in the process. This will erase everything on the iPhone, but a backup will be created during the Restore process, allowing you to recover your data.

İ forgot to write solution about this problem. I went to App Store and problem is a hardware problem and non-solution so that they changed my iphone with a new one . If you tried all solutions but does not change anything , you have to go an Apple Store or Apple authorized service . They will help you.
