Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your Magic Trackpad is unresponsive or behaving erratically, I recommend starting with the troubleshooting guide found on this page:
Trackpad or Magic Trackpad is jumpy or erratic
It lists several steps that can help isolate and resolve the behavior you're seeing.
Best Regards,
Jeremy

Nov 17, 2014 9:04 AM in response to davidawby TogaGuy,Either of my two Apple trackpads began to freeze soon after waking from sleep my iMac with Mavericks. New batteries did not help. Turning it off and on did not help. (The iMac never indicated loss of trackpad connection.) Removing the batteries, waiting for the iMac to indicate loss of connection, and reinstalling batteries would resolve the issue.
A post, that I can no longer find, suggested trying Energizer batteries. Thinking I was grasping at a straw, I bought new Energizer batteries and installed them.
The bad news is that over the next couple of days the trackpad froze twice. The good news is that for the last month it has not.
Hope this straw may help others with a similar issue.
