Thanks but what happens is it does not reset but sends me back into iTunes where the initial software update (from 8 to 8.0.2) was somehow interrupted. As a result, it is inviting me to reconnect to iTunes, to do a restore, but the restore might be to the iPhone 4S that I had backed up before. In any case, when I do this, the initial back up process starts fine and then gets stuck at the same midway place as before, when it is trying to recognise the iPhone model.

Comes up with an Error (53) message.

The problem is that the restore process via iTunes gets interrupted midway and never completes. I have shut down iTunes, the iMac and so on, to repeat the same process and get the exact same result: stuck midway with Error (53) message. Do not what to do to get out of this loop.

I wonder if this is not because the previous backup was for the iPhone 4 on OS 7.1.2 ?
