I believe after installed MAVERICKS my time has dissappeared from my task bar.
Have gone into preferences to select it from the time/date option, but it does not let me select (check mark) that option---->of showing the time on the task bar
Please advise...

Is the check box grayed out?
What happens when you try to check the box?
Are you signed in as administrator?
not grayed out, does not let me check that option....it flickers, but does not take the checkmark.
not aware if being logged in as administrator, will need to try that.....(refresh me how to log in as admin)
If you are the one who setup the Mac and only use one account you are signed in as Administrator.
Open the Console app and look for log entries at the time you clicked on checking the box.

Hi ..
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Now type or copy paste the following:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.systgemuiserver.plist file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac then open System Preferences > Date & Time and select the Date & Time tab.
Select: Set date and time automatically
Then select the Time Zone tab and select: Set time zone automatically using current location
Now see if the date and time appears in the status menu bar.

Tried to check mark "show date and time in menu bar" and it just flickers and does not take it......No changes whatsoever (it behaves the same as before)
As you're having issues with this and your Time Machine icon from another post, I would restart into the Recovery HD, reinstall Mavericks on top of itself then run Software Update to bring it up to date. No data or apps will be harmed.
Really appreciate your troubleshooting steps.
Not doing it right now, because have some other work going on and don't want to stop the computer, will be done maybe weekend and will keep you posted.

Had Issues with time machine and Iphoto not opening, besides the Time not showing.........All got fixed by installing YOSEMITE
