problems with ios 8. Screen replaced now phone useless - please help!

Having dropped my iphone5 I had the screen replaced and now it shows a red icon for iTunes. When I connect to ITunes I get a 4013 message saying iTunes is unable to update my phone. I have ios8 and this has apparently caused the problem? Anyone got a solution apart from scrapping the phone? Thanks

Hey belleelise,

Thanks for the question. The following resource outlines troubleshooting information for restore error 4013:

1. Install the latest version of iTunes.

2. Restart your computer.

3. Make sure your computer is up to date. If an update requires a restart, check for updates again after you restart.

- Learn more about updating OS X.

- Learn more about updating Windows.

4. Restore using another USB cable.

5. Restore your device on another computer.

If you continue to see error 4005, 4013, or 4014 when you restore your device, contact Apple for support.

Thanks,

Matt M.

If Apple or an Authorized Apple Service Provider replaced the screen and the phone worked before without problems, bring it back, your phone might still be covered by the repair warranty.

If a 3rd party company did the replacement you're out of luck, Apple will not service the phone anymore, even if you are willing to pay the service fee, and you'll have to contact those people who did repair the phone.

In my opinion, if the screen has been replaced, the "connect to iTunes" screen rather points to a hardware problem, than to a software issue, due to taking the phone apart and putting it back together again.

To rule out a software issue, restore the phone using recovery mode, explained in this article:

If you can't update or restore your iOS device
