I don't know how to pair my new macbook laptop with an apple remote. I tried looking in Preferences>security>ADVANCED and there is no "enable remote" as per support pages for macs (in general).

Hi I tried this but it doesn't appear to work. When they say the front of the mac do they mean the screen or the base of the MACbook where the latching groove is ?
Also, Mine has a retina display, does that make a difference ?

Yes I do have the built in Camera BUT i have no idea whether there is a build in IR rx. I checked under ABOUT THIS MAC> MORE INFO>SYSTEM REPORT>
after that I don't know where to look but i don't see anything that lists IR.
Does your MacBook Pro Retina actually have a built-in camera and infrared receiver?
I don't believe the latest Macs have an IR receiver for a remote control.
I think not actually so I am going to look into getting a 3rd party ext rx for the IR. Thanks for your help
