Q: How to disable iOS FaceTime notification sounds?

I don't want any sound-based notifications on my iOS device, but I still want the visual alerts.

Most apps (e.g. Messages, Reminders, etc.) have a `None` choice at the top of their list of notification sound options (or at least an `On/Off` switch, e.g. Gmail and Hangouts), but `Settings / Notifications / FaceTime / Notification Sound` yields no `none` option.

Nothing more regarding notification sounds is listed under `Settings / FaceTime`, nor in the app itself (which frustratingly has no in-app settings—I think the system settings are crowded enough even without adding app settings to them).

Am I missing something?

In the meantime, all I can do (it seems) is disable FaceTime notifications altogether.

    From the iOS manual:

    Sounds and silence

You can change or turn off the sounds iPod touch plays when you get a FaceTime call, text, email, tweet, Facebook post, reminder, or other event.

Set sound options. Go to Settings > Sounds for options such as alert tones and ringtones, and ringer and alert volumes.

If you want to temporarily silence incoming FaceTime calls, alerts, and sound effects, see the following section.

There is no mention of FaceTime specifically under `Settings / Sounds`.

Furthermore, all items on that page are set to `None`, except for `Ringtone`, which—like `Settings / Notifications / FaceTime / Notification Sound`—has no `None` option.

Confusingly (by the way), changing the Ringtone sound on that page also changes the FaceTime notification sound on the page referenced in my original question. It annoys me how much Apple, in the last half decade, has taken to using inconsistent terminology and disparately nested preference menus…though not as much as the inability to control the settings on my own devices annoys me (alas).

This seems to have the answer... albeit a convoluted one (Apple should simplify the FT sound setting!)
