Q: Apps on AppStore won't update apps. Everytime I hit update on one of the apps, it opens up that certain app and doesn't update it. Any ideas on what's going on?

The apps on my AppStore won't update. It gives me the notification on the App Store on the app, and when I check it and hit update, it just opens up the app. none of the apps will update because all they will do is just open the app. anyone know what to do?

iPhone 5s, iOS 7.0.4

Thank you for this work around. Painful, but better than nothing.

i found good workaround actually, open AppStore go to the updates page, then close the appstore, open it , then real quickly press the update all before it turns grey, as it is blue for a few seconds

Best workaround I've found is to open iTunes on my computer, update the apps in there, then sync my iPhone.

Apple likes to FORCE us to do things their way. Too many people aren't bothering to sync using iTunes on a computer. My guess is this is Apples way to force us to use iTunes more..

The iPhone is an amazing device, but I hate iTunes.

Just press open then. The same thing happened to me but when I pressed open it updated just the same. Thanks cosmic owl for the workaround fix! On a related note, it was really difficult to leave this reply! I had to use Siri as the keyboard would not type but oddly I could use the back button. WTH?! (even advance editor had glitches)

Thanks! I've been dealing with this for months and this is the easiest solution. Some apps like Snapchat won't even let you log in unless you have a recent version, and not being able to update the app means you get locked out at some point.

I believe this is a deliberate move by apple to urge people to update to the most recent OS. At the time of writing I am using iOS 7 on an iPhone 4S. I'll be updating to iOS 8 tonight and I'll be curious to see if it solves the problem.

I have a 4S with iOS 8.4 and I'm having trouble updating my apps. I have ten that need updating and they all have the update button, but when I click the update button the loading circle starts going around and then never changes. The stop symbol doesn't appear, the progress bar around the circle doesn't appear, it just keeps going around and around. I've tried syncing my phone with my iTunes, I've tried resetting my phone, and I've tried updating from each single app page. Nothing works.

Here is the fix as I experienced.

I had the same problem with apps updates when my phone was connected to my office wifi. But the apps itself started updating when I reached my home and my phone got connection with my home's wifi.

I guess, my office wifi has some restriction program for app store's apps updates. So guys, once again try with another wifi or (cellular) data provider. If still it doesn't work for anybody, maybe I am wrong.

I Am having the same problem...nothing says update. It's just open and update is greued out. For as much as I pay I should have no problems. If they don't resolve this issue soon I will cancel my memberships with them and return all my products for a full refund. Android has almost everything Apple does now. So I'm just done with Apple. Apple is loosing customers. You just lost one after 3 and half years. I encourage anybody to drop Apple and go with android.

This just became an issue for me yesterday. Several apps required an update (unusual, it normally happens automatically)...when I touch "update all" or any individual update button, nothing happens. I can update the app on my Mac through iTunes and sync my iPhone... that will update the apps, but can no longer update directly from my phone. Using iOS 10.0.2, just updated (yesterday was using 10.0.1, same problem) on iPhone 5s.
