Couldn't move your calendars to iCloud because an error occurred. Calendar and iCloud calendar are synched just fine -- still get this message

In Calendar I have been getting the message "Couldn't move your calendars to iCloud because an error occurred. Make sure you're connected to the Internet, and then try again." My Calendar and iCloud calendar are synched just fine -- and when I make a change to one the change instantly shows up on the other. IOS devices are fine.

I cannot find any reason for this -- I am connected to the Internet, of course. Cannot find anything in searches for this problem, though it does show up as a past question that has been asked.

Anyone have any suggestions?

FWIW ... OS x 10.9.5. Everything is up to date. MacBook Air, 2013 vintage.

None of that helped.

What did help was a long session with Apple Support ... eventually we got to the solution I wanted to start with.

Went into iCloud settings and disabled Calendar.

Went into Library (Finder / Go menu with Option key held down / Choose Library) and to the folders Calendars and Caches. Delete ALL contents from those folders.

Restart computer.

Re-open iCloud preferences and enable Calendar

Open Calendar and let calendars re-populate.

Voila. Problem solved.

This worked! Did not delete Cache folder files...only Calendars. Thanks Lorne.

Side note: this happened because my iphone6 and my Macbook Pro Calendars were not syncing, so Apple told me to go to iCloud.com and change preferences, which in turn made me change my AppleID password. I never logged into this site before, it made me answer security questions I made years ago, (which took awhile to figure out, but I eventually did), all for iCloud access (which I thought was working).

Apple also advised to export a copy of my iCal (in case things went sour, I understand), which I couldn't do because of the error, and I was nervous before I deleted the files. I went ahead and did it without deleting the cache files and it worked. Should I still delete those cache files or what?

Voila, synced Calendars.
