How do I connect my iPad (lightning) to my Mac display (mini displayport I believe)?

I have a 2nd gen iPad (so it has the lightning plug) and I want to plug it into a standalone Mac display that I have sitting around (that has a mini displayport cable coming out of it). For the life of me I can't find an adapter online. Can anyone help? And no, I can't utilize AirPlay or any wifi-based program to do this because there is no wi-fi where this is being used and their is no computer - just a monitor.

You can connect through iOS apps and WiFi to mirror on your desktop, subsequently thru to projectors. Type "mirror iPad to mac" in your favorite search engine. After this, set up a local WiFi hotspot between your computer and the iPad. No need to have a centralized WiFi broadcast.

You can also search for a lightning to VGA adapter. They do exist.

Otherwise, I am confused what you want.

Yeah. I just purchased 3 cables. Lightning > VGA (female), VGA (male) to mini displayport (male), and finally a mini displayport coupler which will allow me to plug in the mini displayport that comes out of the monitor to the one that comes from the last cable. I just bought them on Amazon and am about 99% certain that whole setup will never work. We'll see. I can't believe there's not a better solution.
