Q: How do I see how much free memory I have using Activity Monitor on OS X Maverick?

I just switched to OS X Maverick and wanted to check how much free memory my mac has. I usually use activity monitor to do that. This new version of activity monitor doesn't seem to show what I'm looking for. Prior to upgrading to OS X Maverick, my mac was using a little more than 300 GB of space and I had 20 GB of free space. Like I said, the new activity monitor doesn't show this anywhere. Why? How can I access this information? Any help would be appreciated. And yes, I know that 20 GB of free space is a dire situation. I'm going to be purchasing a 1 TB Mac Mini soon to solve this problem and other future problems. Thanks for helping me out.

There are several ways; by the way, memory does not equal hard drive space. Memory (aka RAM) is shown in Activity Monitor. Hard drive space can be checked this way:

single click/highlight your hard drive icon (Macintosh HD) and press Command + I for a "get info" window. It will show you capacity, used, and available. Or,

open a Finder window; go to View in the menu bar and choose "show status bar". It will show you info depending on which item you have selected in the sidebar.
