No 5k thunderbolt display?

What the ****? Those of us who are Apple's biggest customers (paid $10k for a Mac Pro) who need it the most (do video editing) don't get a 5k display? Very disappointed.

Mac Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

I just purchased the LG 31MU97 4K display. Works great - still figuring out how to get it to do full 4K resolution on the 2013 Mac Pro but the overall feel, color and general look of the monitor blows away the 30" Cinema Display that I have been using. Part of this decision was made after going into the Apple store and playing around with the new 5K iMac in store and comparing it to the other monitors. I honestly felt that the screen - while nice - was not making me feel like I would be missing anything buying the LG. I went in to Fry's to buy the LG - MU95 and they had just received one of these MU97 4K monitors in - so I bought this one instead.

Might I be so bold as to ask you how much you paid?

I'm leaving Canada in the morning for Florida and when I return in Dec I might just want to bring one back.

I must say it does bother me that Apple has ignored us. In my case I don't need a 4k but I sure would like the USB 3 hub.

I'm going to have to price this monitor in Canada. May be considerably more. Many years ago Apple adopted a practice that has been very fair and the Canadian prices basically reflect the foreign exchange difference and very little more or less.

Price was $1399 + tax. I looked at the other lgs there and decided on this one since I am posting a 4 k movie later this month. I like it and so far am happy with it Though I can't seem to get it to go full 4K on the Mac Pro. I have another thread here going about that in the monitor section now. It seems to me like there needs to be an update to the software as the monitor keeps displaying "set computer to 4096 to get optimal resolution" however there is no setting for that in the system > display> settings tab. I think it needs an apple support update. Otherwise- love it so far.

Cool thanks for that link. I know about the option click thing - it is in the apple literature - but the option for 4096 is still not there. I have been using switch X but honestly the 3840 x 2160 resolution is as high as I can get it with apple display pref's. I'm fine with that for now - as the difference between 3840 x 2160 and 4096 x 2160 is minimal.

Apple needs to do an update to the AMD video cards to support all of the new 4K monitors that are coming out. As I've stated before on the other thread - I am using my monitor at 3840 x 2160 without any additional software and it looks great at native 60hz. The extra 256 pixels that I am missing will come in time and are not inhibiting my workflow in any way.

2560 x 1600 monitors on eBay are fairly inexpensive and come from South Korea. The only real issue with them are the dead pixels they say exist, no more than 4 dead RGB pixels. But, for about $400 it may be a solution.

I agree that a 5K iMac needed a 5K display with Thunderbolt 3.

However, regardless of how 'bad' Apple deals with its most ardent followers, we always stay loyal, yes?

No 5k thunderbolt display?
