Is the ram on the late 2014 mac mini still user upgradable?
I am wondering if the new Mac Mini has still user upgradable ram. So is it soldered on, or not?

Apple has not said and their article
Mac mini: How to remove or install memory
Has not yet been updated
However, It looks like the same case or the 2011 and 2012 and thus I would expect the memory is user upgradable like those models.
It does look like the memory is different that the ones in the 2o12 sincethe memoryin the new Mini is
1600MHz LPDDR3 memory
The earlier ones did not use the term "LP". (low power)

I won't have to. If you believe a dual core Haswell i5 is better than a quad core Ivy Bridge i7 with similar GHz ratings (Intel graphics aside), you'll believe anything.
You are correct.
Csound is incorrect. Just move along and dont worry about his protest to the contrary.
The late 2012's are the last to be RAM upgradeable..in fact, since Apple store finally had some refurbished minis today, I bought a quad core i7. I already have a late 2012 dual core i5 mini that I'm giving to my son. For my purposes at least, the older minis seem to be a better value than those released yesterday. I have a 16GB of compatible RAM for example that I can use on the 2012 model that'd not help a bit with the new ones. I understand the direction they're taking, and one day I may have to give in, but I'm not ready yet.

PV, all I have said is that I have not had the chance to see one yet so can't compare the performance of it with the old one. How is that incorrect?
I am impressed that you know so much about something that you have not yet had the chance to use.

Please quote where I said that, I believe that you are making it up.
The statement in the link is
"Confirmed: RAM in the new Mac mini is not user accessible. Hard drive can be replaced/upgraded, though not keeping warranty."
Using the term "accessible" in "user accessible" is strange to me. It the memory was not not user accessible I wold have said user replaceable (e.g. solder in place)

According to this link, the ram is not upgradable. So which one is it?
its NOT UPGRADABLE.
clarified yet?
Did the same, just bought the 2012 Quad Core i7 2,6 GHz with 16 GB RAM and a 1 TB Fusion Drive online for less than the new, downgraded Mac Mini with the same amount of RAM.

Congratulations on your new purchase. I was speaking to a friend a few minutes ago and he was on Amazon buying the 2012 Quad Core i7 while we were on the phone. Seems that you're right to get in there before those wonderful little machines disappear! Good luck with your setup - I'm happy you've got a solution that works for you.
Looks like you made the right decision...by a long way: http://www.macrumors.com/2014/10/19/mac-mini-2014-benchmark/
Thanks man! 🙂
And oh boy that benchmark test really speaks for itself. This commentreally made me laugh. Let's see how many comments this MacRumors article will have, the one about the soldered RAM is at 1308 comments now. People are furious and I can't blame them.

translation: Apple doesnt want (all companies are same) UNSKILLED people sticking their paws in the machine to tinker........
often causing a break etc etc to which they MIGHT make a warranty (unjustified) claim.
Its like the "do not remove under penalty of law" sticker on your mattress 😁
some of us however know what we are doing.
lllaass, I agree with you. The the article is kind of misleading, because it uses the term "not accessible," this could mean two things, either it is hard to reach and not soldered or soldered without being upgradeable.
We are just going to have to wait for the iFixit teardown to truly find out.

The new Mac Mini is a big mistake. You should be able to change RAM memory by your own. There is no other alternative. Upgrading RAM is the most important act with computers. Apple will drive faithful Apple users directly to Wintel. Back to RAM business, Apple!
