Gave my iphone 5 to my husband I have a new iphone 6. Here is the question: He is with TMobile on a pay-as-you-go plan as he hardly uses the phone. Here is the problem. I registered him with a new apple id for the apple store without a problem but when I get on his phone (was mine and I did NOT wipe it clean because there are apps he can use), it is asking for my apple id and not his. How do I rectify this so that I can sign in with his id?

Are you referring to going to the App Store? iOS: Sign in with a different Apple ID in the iTunes Store, App Store, and iBooks Store If that is the case, there is the support document. However, if you are referring to updating apps on the device, that will not change. Since you have apps installed on the device from your Apple ID, they are forever locked to that Apple ID and it will always ask for that when updating. The only way to change that is to wipe the phone and download apps with his Apple ID.
You will need to repurchase those apps for a new Apple ID unfortunately

Where exactly is it asking for your apple id?
On my iphone 5 (now his) when I go to the APP's, it asks for my id - I want to change it to his in order to put a few games on that he uses that were free!
settings - app/iTunes store - sign out and sign in with his apple id.
Note that apps that are still there with your apple id - he will need your password in order to do the update if there is one.
OK - so I tried this -signed out with mine and in with his. Put on the free app and guess what? It is showing mine instead of his!
So - maybe I should just use his old SIM card and take mine out - guess this would solve the problem?
The SIM has nothing to do with your Apple ID. And for the other question you asked, what do you mean you put on a free app and it is showing yours instead of his. What is showing yours and where is it showing it?
If you Sign out of the iTunes and App stores and sign in with your Husband's Apple Id, all purchases made after that point will be made with his Apple Id.
If you try to download an old App from your Purchased List. or try to update an App already on the iPhone it will require your Apple \Id.
The Sim card has no bearing in this.
