airdrop not working (iOS8 and Yosemite)?

You cannot airdrop from iOS to OS X / Vice versa.

The problem i was having was with handoff AND airdrop. If you're having a problem with handoff also, then what i did might help.

I realized that, because Apple changed their iCloud email addresses so many times, that I now have three for my account. One with @mac.com, one with @me.com, and one with @icloud.com.

My phone was signed in under @me and my computer was signed in under @mac. Everything always worked fine until I had to use handoff. I ended up having to log out of the computer and sign it in with the @me.com. Worked like a charm.

My problem now is that when I see my computer in Airdrop on my iPhone (or vice versa, actually), the name of the device that shows up is my daughters name. My contact info in my computer and in my phone are both my name. There is no reference to her name anywhere. No idea why this is happening.

I will ask a stupid question, but is airdrop turned on in ios8 I ask because I thought it would kust work, but it wasn't switched on.

swipe up in ios8 and you will see airdrop, see what is there off/contacts/everyone if it is off, then it won't see airdrop on the Mac anyway...

iPhone 6 with iOS 8.0.2 and MacBook Pro with Yosemite final release. AirDrop is enabled for 'everyone' on both devices and Bluetooth turned on on both devices. Mac sees the iPhone and I can send stuff to the phone as advertised, but the iPhone doesn't see the Mac. What am I missing? Very frustrating.

My mac's airdrop is on, but I don't see an "everyone" option on there. Could that be the problem? And if it is, where can I fix that?

P.s. My macbook doesn't see my iPad, nor does it work the other way.

Same issue as BrianShaw3. I can send from MBP to iPhone, but not the reverse (iPhone to MBP). Not sure what's inhibiting the iPhone from "seeing" the MBP.

OK, got mine working. I rebooted the iPhone and then, about 2 minutes later (!?), the Mac showed up on the iPhone. All is well in both directions now.

I don't seem to have that underneath. Instead, under the airdrop symbol I have the following:

"AirDrop lets you share instantly with people nearby. To share with someone using a Mac, ask them to go to AirDrop in the Finder."

Not a stupid question at all. But, yep I am, the one that was released earlier today.

Hmmm. Perplexing. When you open AirDrop on the Mac, does it ask you to turn on Bluetooth if it isn't already on?

And you've gone to the airdrop folder on the Mac? Seems like that message to go to the finder is similar to what they say on the phone. Should be able to change to "contacts only" or "everyone" if you go to "AirDrop" in the "Finder" app.

In other news, restarting/power cycling the iPhone like Brian said has my AirDrop working both ways as well. MBP to iPhone and iPhone to MBP. In related events, Handoff still only seems to work from MBP to iPhone ... not the other way around. Hmmmmmm ....

I just switched my bluetooth off and went over to AirDrop in the sidebar and it doesn't seem to ask about bluetooth. The Appstore is still updating programs like iPhoto and iMovie. Maybe i'll give it another restart when all those are done and see if that helps. Will keep you updated. Thanks for the quick replies by the way.

I think a restart is a good idea. Your AirDrop behavior sure sounds like the way it always used to work before Yosemite. On my machine, it's impossible to invoke AirDrop unless Bluetooth is on, and if its not, I can't get past the "Turn On Bluetooth" warning.
