Yosemite (OS X 10.10) killed my WiFi :(

I just updated to Yosemite on a brand new 15" MBP Retina Display. For some reason my WiFi is not working. I turn it on and select the network I want to join (my regular network at home that I've been using with this same computer before updating). So, I turn it on and select the network and doesn't seem to want to join it and then my WiFi switches back off completely.

Is anyone else having problems with their WiFi on Yosemite?

Yup, same issue, same machine. Tried wiping the Bluetooth.plist and rebooting but no luck.

Hi Community

I've found a good article about this bluetooth / wlan issue.

I'm not sure, if it is allowed to put a link to an external side here, but you can google for "wifi issue awdl" The headline of the article will be: " iOS 8 WiFi Performance Issues — Medium" and did catch the OSX problem as well.

AWDL stands for Apple Wireless Direct Link, and it is responsible for wifi peer to peer connection like AirDrop. In that article you will find a shell command to disable and enable the AWDL feature. This seems to solve the issue for many users.

Unfortunately it doesn't work for me.

Good luck to anybody, I'm still hoping that apple will come up with a final solution soon.

I'll keep my fingers crossed :-)

I have the same issue. Wi-Fi connects and appears to be fine, but I cannot visit any websites, and downloads don't work as well. All of this after upgrading to Yosemite. I've tried all sorts of things. I've tried creating a new IP address, creating a new wi-fi connection manually, but nothing worked! Tried to reinstall Yosemite, but so far no good. Now I decided to go back to Maverick. I had to reinstall the whole system and delete everything from the computer, including softwares that I use for work.. So many complaints and Apple won't give a single solution... I am very disappointed with this situation.

I upgraded from Lion to Yosemite on Wednesday 11/26 with 10.10.1 - and promptly had a WIFI problem. Time Warner of Los Angeles rendered my cable modem unstable and was going to mail a new one -- which which get to me in 5 days because of the holiday and weekend. So I had to go and BUY a new cable modem on Wednesday night before Staples closed. It now WORKS. My much bigger problem with Yosemite is my laptop has never been more useless.... slow, on the verge of crashing, and made the latest versions of Adobe Creative Suite completely useless. Never had Adobe fail me before - but leave it to YOSEMITE to take everything out in it's wake. Problem is that there is no fix other than to go back to Lion - which I can't do till I work with this flawed computer to get a film to a festival before under widespread, dangerous Yosemite conditions.

Just wanted to add my voice to this thread to give it some extra weight when Apple is scanning for issues.

I have:

Macbook Pro w/ retina, approx 1 year old

iPhone 5

iPad air

ATV 2, connected by ethernet to the time capsule

2gb Time Capsule running a local wifi network

I upgraded my Macbook to Yosemite and all **** broke loose. My first issues was a noticeable drop in wifi speeds. At first I was confused because it caused all devices to slow, so I actually 1st noticed with my iPad on the wifi.

Then I noticed that none of my devices could reliably stream to my ATV. In fact, my iPad lost all sight of the ATV while my computer and iPhone could see it but had issues pushing to it. I focused most of my 1st many hours on the Time Capsule and ATV, resetting both and going through the pain of re-enabling the network, inputting the various options, configuring Netflix on the now reset ATV, etc. Nothing helped. In fact, it almost seemed to make it worse.

Then I noticed that Yosemite was acting very strange. Wanted me to re-start a bunch and kept booting up ultra slow (my Macbook is the solid state memory, usually boots in under 30 seconds, was averaging well over 1.5 minutes to 2 minutes per boot with Yosemite). Out of concern that the OS was unstable I reverted to Mavricks 9.5 and Bam! 100% of my issues are solved, ATV started working again, wifi connectivity improved (albeit after yet another full re-set on the Time Capsule) and the computer is more stable.

Basically: Yosemite is a POS, half baked OS that was prematurely released by a company with no adequate leadership now that Jobs is dead who would rather count their billions than spend the necessary time building properly bug checked software. I've completely lost all faith in this company lately. I'm virtually 100% certain I'll be switching my phone and tablet to Android with their next upgrade... the rest will follow with time.

Just want to throw in my 2c, as I had really hoped that there would be a fix, or at least an acknowledgement of the issues by now. I had similar issues to those shared here when I tried to upgrade my (1 month old) Laptop to Yosemite. It not only crashed WiFi for that new computer, but also for my iMac, iPad and iPhone. I reverted back to Mavericks, and after a little messing around, everything is stable again, which I guess is a fix of sorts.

However, in the hope that someone in Apple monitors this thread, I want to give a little feedback.

1. I greatly appreciate all of the suggestions, altruism and help offered by individuals on this thread, so thank you. However, that should at most be triage for a short period of time while Apple fixes the problem. Apple owns the issue, not its loyal user base. It is now coming up on 2 months since this issue first popped. I am a very long time Apple user, and a big part of the reason I am is because I am happy to pay a significant premium for an intuitive, no fuss operating system and reliable product. I have neither the aptitude or desire to spend hours trying out different ways to paper over the cracks in a premium product. When you buy a Rolls Royce, you don't expect to have to climb under the car and tinker with the engine every morning to get it to start, even if it has British electronics.

2. Apple, you risk killing your Xmas/year end business. I don't want to, but I am close to being forced to buy a PC Desktop. Like many small businesses, I have to make certain purchases before the end of the year, and the clock is ticking very loudly. I cannot afford to buy a new iMac with a Yosemite OS that is not going to work, and worse still, potentially kill my entire network. I realize that I am just one person, but I suspect I am not alone, and at the time of year when people are buying Xmas presents, or making year end transactions, Apple really needs to provide some reassurance, or at the very least acknowledge the problem.

3. A sort of thank you. I sold my Apple stock today. I've held it since the week Steve Jobs returned, and I have to say I greatly appreciate what the company has done to grow the stock (pun intended). It has certainly helped me to afford the premium price of Apple products over the years. I bought the stock because I believed in Apple, and because I saw both potential and magic when Jobs first came back. The debacle with Yosemite has been enough to persuade me personally that the magic has gone, or at least has become unstable. I hope I'm wrong, as in the future, as a consumer I still want the quality of products Apple has provided over the years. However, now I'm just hoping for it, rather than putting my retirement behind it. Go on Apple, I dare you, make me regret selling, or better still, give me a reason to buy back in.

Joining the club of wifi issues, it seems.

Just bought this 15'' Macbook recently (bought September 2014). The first couple days I was using it with Yosemite the wifi would short out occasionally, I didn't think much of it because my old Windows laptop did that too. But now it cuts out every five minutes! Typing this I'm on a record 10~ minutes of continuous wifi. It's fine at home, but my school's 802.1X apparently cannot work with Yosemite.

Has anyone figured out the problem/a solution?

Yosemite (OS X 10.10) killed my WiFi :(
