ATV 3 Version 7.0 Home Sharing not woking with Yosemite and iTunes 12

Home Sharing from my Apple TV 3 (A1469) with software 7.0 is not working from the library on my MacBook Pro (Mid 2012) with OS X Yosemite 10.10, Airplay still works but its annoying to have to choose a Song/Movie/TV show from my MBP and then Airplay it to the ATV. Much preferred how well Home Sharing worked.

- I have both devices signed in to the same Apple ID.

- Have tired turning Home Sharing off and on

- Have restored the Apple TV

Using all devices on the same 5G wifi network (Huawei HG659b)

Most annoying thing is it was working perfectly before iTunes 12 was released.

Has anyone else discovered this problem? Does Apple or anyone have a fix?

Please HELP!

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10), Yosemite 10.10

I tried all of the other solutions without success. Here's what worked for me on both my ATV3 and ATV2.

  1. On your ATV, go to Settings > Computers > Turn OFF Home Sharing
  2. Confirm that you want to turn it off
  3. Now turn it back on by selecting Turn ON Home Sharing
  4. When prompted whether to use your existing Home Sharing account, select "No, use a different Apple ID"
  5. Keep your existing Apple ID by clicking Submit (your existing Apple ID is populated by default)
  6. Enter your Apple ID password

That's it! Hope this works for those that didn't find success with the other solutions.

I know this is already marked as "answered", but the answer didn't help my problem. I provide the following, because it was my solution.

I had to troubleshoot this problem too, and was at a loss because the Preferences dialog for Home Sharing doesn't have you sign in to Home Sharing using your AppleID. The trick is to click on the upper left icon (half gray, half white), then select "Library" and then "Turn On Home Sharing" at which point it will prompt you to sign in with your AppleID. Once you do this, your library should show up wherever you are trying to access it. It took me 2 days to figure this out because my PC library wouldn't show up on my AppleTV even though I had Sharing enabled in the Preferences dialog. Turns out it has to be enabled in the Preferences, but then turned on in this difficult to find menu item.

Hope this helps.

What do you mean CLEAN INSTALL ? I installed Yosemite 3 or 4 days ago with update of iTunes. Until Apple TV doesn't find my library.

But ATV connect with MacBook because he have seen that i changed Library name and i can play the movie on Itunes and share it on Apple tv.I can also buy the movie, so WIFI is ok. Very very strange...

You did an update/upgrade - not a clean install. A clean install (try "OS X clean install" on google - you'll find plenty of information) means thoroughly backing up all your data (preferably not using time machine) testing your backup, erasing your hard disk drive and than installing OS X and all other software from the scratch before restoring the user data from your backup.

This is not fun, takes some hours, but in my case finally solved my problems.

And, YES, it felt again like in old times with Win95 ;-)

Yes I've tried all that too and nothing worked, then I came up with a way around it until Apple get their fingers out and put it right. I decided to put the film I want to watch tonight on my iPad and air play it through that. So first I played a music video from my iPad onto ATV and that worked, unbelievably I turned that off and noticed that my films were all listed from my Mac as they should be. I tried to play one and it works fine, then I noticed that my McAfee was all turned off for some reason. So I don't know as I haven't tried turning McAfee back on yet, but maybe it was a firewall stopping it from working.

Either way we shouldn't have to go through all this to get it working.

When I decide to put my McAfee back on I'll then see if it still works ......... but not until I've used ATV tonight.
