Q: ATV 3 Version 7.0 Home Sharing not woking with Yosemite and  iTunes 12

You can go back to iTunes 11 with a bit of a fiddle - search for Downgrade iTunes 12 to iTunes 11 or similar.

However, I'm on iTunes 11 and have the same problem, sharing doesn't show so I hope I can hack it with suggestions from below.

Make sure home sharing is turned on under iTunes -- File -- Home Sharing -- Home Sharing On, this worked for me.  Sign in with same apple id as is used on the other devices.

Sadly, buggycode is right.  None of the fixes seem to be permanent.  Although a computer name change and an ATV restart worked for a day, it did not stick. Restarts and reboots intermittently "fix" the problem.  Ultimately, Apple should get their act together and get a permanent fix out to the community.  Is anyone from Apple listening out there?

I have tried all listed in this thread, over the last few days, but nothing has worked for me.

For the ones that could not get Home sharing to work, are we just waiting for Apple to supply an update?

Bay Boy, did you try this -

- For me, it requires an iCloud i.d. - either your Apple i.d. or a different one (but you don't seem to have to be signed in)

- On the 'server' Mac, set the folders you want to share, again. Rename the computer too, also in Sharing.

- Restart both the 'server' and the recipient computers.

- Now on the recipient computer I see the server computer as a sidebar item under Shared. Click that and I get a Finder pane showing folders. Along the top of the pane it says I'm connected with my iCloud sign in, although I'm not logged into iCloud.

- There is also a choice in Finder Preferences to Show connected servers on the Desktop, but although I checked that it only shows them under Sharing in the Sidebar.

The process for Home Sharing under iTunes is different, it's Files > Home Sharing and give an Apple i.d., on each of the devices you want to connect.

Those worked for me, anyway, eventually.

i had been having the same issue since i updated to Yosemite, i tried many suggestion from this forum, i.e. changing the library name, turning on sharing from within iTunes preferences and turning on home sharing from file tab, but was still un able to get it to work, but here is what did the trick for me... open system preferences from launch pad then click on the folder labeled sharing. click on the edit button below computer name and change the local host name, then click ok. after that i clicked the check box to enable file sharing. after that everything was back to normal. there was no need for a restart or any thing, just worked straight away. hope this works for some others.

Given up now, as tried everything posted on this site in varied combinations & nothing has worked.

The problem was NOT theFirewall for me. I don't even run the Yosemite's Firewall. The problem was iTunes 12 and it was fixed through 4 different fixes. The Problem might have been the Firewall for YOU however. It seems like several folks had several different bugs

Tried everything in all other posts.... weirdly this is what fixed it for me...? Don't understand what that has to do with anything. Well done you've saved me another headache...

On your Mac go into system preferences, select sharing and change the Computer Name.

I had the similar problem to waynefromutrecht.  My ATV2 saw only music library but not movie file. This happened after I upgraded Mac Mini (late 2012) to Yosemite, which  included iTunes 12.0.0.  I did computer name change trick but it did not work. Finally I turn off Home Sharing on both Mac Mini and ATV2. Then I upgraded iTunes to the latest version 12.0.1.26 and turned on Home Sharing again. It works! Both of my music and movie files are shown in ATV2 again.  I think iTunes upgrade solved my problem.

Running iTunes 12, (latest) on a Win7 KVM virtual machine did provide a  working solution. I still had to restart the ATV3 device almost once a day, however I do not have to reboot the Windows machine providing the iTunes home sharing, nor did I have to restart iTunes it self.  This is definitely much better than the Yosemite/iTunes experience on a Mac Mini!  That required Multiple ATV3 restarts and Mac OSX restarts per day!  The Windows solution also proved to be more reliable than a Mavericks/iTunes.

Running Microsoft as part of my Media solution left me feeling a little dirty .  So I tried the following:

I performed a clean install of Mountain Lion on the Mac Mini.  I updated everything except iTunes.  This is still running a base version of iTunes 11.0.4 (I think).

The connections to  the Media drives were re-established using SMBFS.  Adding the media to  my iTunes library was a lot faster.  I took around 20 minutes instead of the 4 hours for Yosemite and 1.5 hours for Windows.

Both ATV3 connected without hesitation and without requiring a restart - promising... 

Streaming Video also worked first time without complaints. 

I will run with this for a few days and see....

Yes this is what worked for me as well, unfortunately I tried about a million other things first. grrr.

This, IMHO, yet another issue related to 10.10's new discovery framework, discoverd, which even now in 10.10.2 is still buggy.

It's contributing to the general meme about Apple's software going down the tubes, as per Marco Arment, because it manifests in many scenarios.

I can confirm that changing the name of the computer in Preferences - Sharing does solve his issue, however, why are we having the issue in the first place?

In my case, I have an Apple TV on every TV in my house.  If all are off and I stream something from Home Sharing it works fine.  The problem arises for me when I move to another TV.  The first TV is still hooked to the Home Sharing and I get an error on the second TV.  Changing the name of the computer does work, but I have also found that going back to my first TV and sleeping the Apple TV, then going to the second TV and turning Home Sharing off, then back on, then reboot, works. 

This seems to be a shortfall in the Apple TV itself.  I guess Apple didn't expect multiple Apple TVs to be accessing the same Home Share.
