Yosemite green button behaviour?

Hi Everyone, I hope you're doing great.

Just Installed the brand new OS X: Yosemite and I'd like to know if someone knows:

How to invert the behaviour of the green button?

I do know about the option key trick, but I'd like to option+click to Full Screen and single click to Zoom.

Thank you.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014), OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

Also if you are adamant on clicking the green button in all programs for old zoom functionality you can set this to right click or left click with the use of a very handy 3rd party app.

BetterTouchTool BTT

http://www.boastr.de

I use it to snap windows like windows left half of screen right half or full size at top... (very nifty tool for me... cant do without this application. Best app for controlling mac the way you like i think) You will have to put it in your login items. And you will need to play a little bit with it to get hang of it... however quite easy to use once you get used to it.

You can also set the green button to zoom if you like with a left or a right click... whatever you prefer...

(preferences -> other-> Configure new trigger for global)

At trigger put in left(or right; or anything else) click green window button.

Predefined action -> windows interaction -> Zoom window below cursor.

Play around with it basically until you find the triggers combinations that work for you...

I have so many cool shortcuts i use with that program...

Including pinch zoom for MS OFFICE

and touch pad with fingers 1 then 2 then 3 then 4 to CmdQ (close) a window... etc...

Combinations possibilities and customisations are endless.

Hello again.

Thank you to those who kindly took their time in trying to give an answer to this question.

Judging by the answers I received, I came to the conclusion that perhaps I didn't formulated the question correctly, so here again it goes with images.

Image 01: This is what I have when I open some application, or folder, lets for example use Safari.User uploaded file

Image 02: When I place the cursor over the green button it shows the Full Screen icon.

User uploaded file

Image 03: Once I click on the green button, it goes to Full Screen, taking the whole screen.

Image 04: Here's the state where I come back coming out of Full Screen (or the original state when I opened Safari).

User uploaded file

Image 05: When I option+click the green button changes to a plus ➕ sign.

User uploaded file

Image 06: Once I option+click the window expands only to it's natural borders, leaving space to actually 'see' the rest of the screen.

Image 07: Conclusion, my question is: Is there a way to by default have this functions inverted?

Just for fun, imagine that my left hand is always occupied (unavailable) 😉

I wouldn't like to have an external App to do this though. Thank you in advance.

We understood what you requested.

Lanny correctly said there is no way to do exactly what you want on clean yosemite installation through system preferences etc..

I offered two alternatives. One is the double click on toolbar. The other is a very functional and efficient 3rd party app.

We gave you certain solutions to counteract the fact that their is no ingrained Yosemite function to do this.

Maybe somebody can find some way to this through terminal somehow...

Agreed, there is no way that I am aware of to swap the behaviour.

But, you do have an alternative method to zoom instead of the Option + Click the green button method, and that is just double clicking the toolbar anywhere.

However this alternate method will only work, if you don't have the same action already set to minimise the app in System Preferences > Dock

My feedback on new feature in Yosemite Finder buttons is negative. On previous OS X if you want full screen windows there was the button in the top right. But I wonder; what's the point of this new behaviour button? Macs are not tablets. I ask the reintroduction of the behaviour of buttons on the Yosemite Finder alike Mavericks.

I agree with you. I can't stand the new behavior of the green button. I wish Apple would let us choose whether we want the button to act as a zoom or full screen. I'm not sure what the purpose of working in full-screen mode is anyway.

By the way, the zoom doesn't work on Excel at all no matter what trick you use. You can hold the alt key or double click the empty space and nothing will happen. It is really annoying. I wish Apple would fix this green button issue through an update.
