Oct 17, 2014 9:45 AM in response to ClaraMGRby gee_emee,I can see some audio icons for a few iPhone friends lit up, but other contacts (including some iphone users) are not. Maybe the update referred to above will solve this.

Oct 17, 2014 12:19 PM in response to Paradoxxxby cruzinova,When you hover your mouse over the phone number in Contacts you will see a phone icon appear to the far right of the number. Once you see the icon click on it and you will dial out using your iPhone. I can now make calls using contacts as well as receive calls that are coming in. This will resolve you problem of making calls.

Oct 17, 2014 12:13 PM in response to Paradoxxxby elsergiovera,I was having the same problem. I update from Maverick and tried to answer a call from my Mac and everything went ok, but I couldn't make a call from my Mac.
What I did to solve this was to restart (I didn't restarted the Macbook pro after the installation) both devices (iPhone 5, Macbook Pro) and I was able to make calls. I mean, at least to have the option to "try" it, because it gave me an "Error in call" or something like that.
But answering calls is working really fine (I answered a call from the bathroom while I was scrolling on 9gag and my iPhone was charging in the other room) so I got that going for me, which is nice.

Oct 17, 2014 12:42 PM in response to cruzinovaby ChrisHawkins,Hi,
It won't resolve the problem. The whole point is that it doesn't work - clicking on that icon does nothing in the event that the number is not associated with a apple account. I can receive ALL calls and make calls to iPhones, but not other phones :-)

Oct 17, 2014 1:04 PM in response to bigbang001by mijaelrodriguez,Pretty much the same situation I'm in.. I can TAKE calls from my iPad or MBP, but I can't MAKE calls from either of them.
Could the problem be that my cellphone number isn't verified by Facetime?
This worked on Yosemite Beta and iOS 8 Beta a few months ago, so ultimately it should work. I guess.. I hope..

Oct 17, 2014 3:03 PM in response to mijaelrodriguezby MaxmillianX,I have the very same problem. I can receive calls on my Macbook, but I cannot initiate them - I always receive an error "iPhone not available" after a few seconds. iPhone and Macbook are on the same wifi network, iPhone is with iOS 8.0.2, BT is enabled, AirDrop and Handoff works fine as well.

Oct 17, 2014 4:13 PM in response to Paradoxxxby defractor,Actually you cannot do a call directly from contacts (address book) : it doesn't work. But if you use spotlight to find a contact or use a phone number on a website it work fine.

Oct 17, 2014 9:51 PM in response to Paradoxxxby Zipman55,Same problem, I get the message: "iPhone Calls Not Available. Your iPhone must use the same iCloud and FaceTime account". I am using the same account. I can receive calls but can't make them.

Oct 18, 2014 12:27 AM in response to defractorby MaxmillianX,That actually doesn't work for me either. I've tried from Safari, Spotlight and Contacts and it gives me "iPhone not available" error in all cases. Incoming calls are still fine.

Oct 18, 2014 2:35 AM in response to Paradoxxxby Maxette,I had the same problem. Solved (at least for me).
After reading this thread I tried everything was on it. Someone mentioned that you need to be sure your phone number is linked to the FaceTime app. Both in iOS and in OS X. So after switching on and off FaceTime and rebooting, without success, I went and signed out from FaceTime on all my devices and singed in again. It kinds of reset all info on every device (you will see popup confirmation messages on all your devices screens).
Success! Outgoing, Incoming, iPhones and not.
Hope this helped

Oct 18, 2014 2:56 AM in response to Paradoxxxby Springbk,Make sure you have your mobile / cell number linked with FaceTime
Have a quick read of this:
iOS and OS X: Link your phone number and Apple ID for use with FaceTime and iMessage

Oct 18, 2014 3:17 AM in response to Paradoxxxby Nitin Kaul,Hi all.
The thing was not working for me as well even though every setting was as it should have been. It kept giving the error that 'both the devices should be on the same iCloud account' even when they were. I thought the error might be because of the reason that I was not on iOS8.1 and I left it as it is; however, I accidentally turned off my Facetime on my iPhone5 while checking the settings and when I turned it back, I got a notification on my MacBook that your phone number has been associated with a new cloud account, and I pressed ok. But the next call I got 10 min after all this, I was surprised to see the notification of it on my Macbook (along with the ringing) and I got to know that everything is working fine now. Tried calling back from my Mac as well and the calls are going thru now. So if everything is fine, then try restarting Facetime on your phone once, that should help probably

Oct 18, 2014 3:37 AM in response to Nitin Kaulby richt07,Agree. All working fine for me after I signed out of Facebook on both my iMac & iPhone then signed back in
I think my problem was that my mobile number wasn't originally associated with my FaceTime on my mobile.
And glad its working on a fairly old iMac early 2009. Hope you all get it sorted yourselves.

Oct 18, 2014 6:16 AM in response to Paradoxxxby abrac,Actually, if you could receiving calls, you can make calls, too.
Turn on the face time whatever(contact etc.) and take your mouse point on to phone number's right place.
You can see the Phone icon arise. Just click!
My problem is opposite.
I can call with Yosemite, hand off and everything without receiving calls.
I don't know why...
I tried many things, but failed.
I use iMac 2013 Late, fusion drive.
