Frozen screen in play mode

I plugged in my ipod nano to my computer as usual to charge and realized it was not recognized on the computer although it turned on automatically as it always does. It is completely frozen in play mode, paused, in the middle of a song, half battery. I only had Itunes 6 so I updated to 7. I tried all of the "5 R's" and nothing worked. I can't restore because Itunes will not recognize the Ipod. It is not the same type of frozen that you need to press the center and menu button for 6-10 seconds, but I tried that too. I'm afraid it might be a glitch that was fixed in Itunes 7 which I didn't get until after the problem happened. Any answers out there?

I have had a similar problem with an iPod nano (2nd generation) right out of the box. I have not been able to determine reproducible conditions under which this happens. The solution is to reset the nano: simultaneously press and hold the Menu and Select (center) buttons for about 5 seconds. The Apple logo will appear and the Nano will reboot. You won't lose any data.

This is described in the detailed manual, which you can get only by downloading from the Apple iPod Nano Web site (or view on screen as HTML).

Thanks for your input, but actually no that was not the problem. I had already had that problem before. The problem was that it was COMPLETELY frozen in play mode and it simply would not do anything including reset when I held down the center and menu button together just as the ipod instructions said. However, after the battery died, I plugged it into my computer and it came alive! Phew...thanks anyway
