The decision to go with a "reddish" icon for Itunes 12 is not so great for my purposes - it looks like I am running one of my recording programs (those change to a red icon when turned on). I know how to change icons in general but would prefer to stick with an actual 'itunes" one if possible. As long as it's not "reddish" (in spite of this descriptor being used by Apple, in my book, it is indeed RED)

You can download the blue icon by clicking the Download ICO button on the page below. Make note of the folder you save it in.

Then in Windows, right-click on the red icon, choose Properties, click the Change Icon button, click the Browse button and navigate to the folder where you saved the blue ICO file. Choose the new icon, Open, OK, Done! These instructions were tested on Windows 7 but should be similar in other versions. Hope that helps!

This simple trick appears to only be able to change icons on the desktop or in the Start menu. When the application is running on the taskbar, Windows obtains that icon in a different manner.

There is a more involved way to change the icons on the taskbar I found below if interested, but I won't be spending the effort on this myself.
