Q: ARD admin doesn't work with Yosemite

Currently I have remote desktop app v3.6.1, and after updating the os to Yosemite, I'm getting a message that the administrator software does not match the installed client software version.

SImilarly, I can not update to 3.7.2 as that tells me that a newer version of this package is already installed.

For me, ARD Admin had to be at 3.7.2 *before* upgrading to Yosemite to function.  If it was at any earlier version, you couldn't update.  I don't know if there was a way to trick that into installing otherwise.

Did you buy ARD through the Mac App Store?  If so, I believe that should download/install 3.7.2

No, unfortunately, I had not upgraded to 3.7.2 before the upgrade. I thought I was at the latest version

I had not bought through App Store, it was the original boxed version from about 8 years ago. I may try buying it through the App Store, or try fiddling with plist files in the installer.

This tends to happen around an OS update. I'd assume it will be fixed once or soon after Yosemite is released.

Sort of issue/situation here as well.  I bought the boxed version long time ago and MAS never picked it up as installed since the introduction of MAS.  In OS X Y, MAS picks it up and shows an update available, but when trying to install the update it complains that the Apple ID used to purchase ARD is not the same.  Of course it's not the same since there was no Apple ID and MAS involved when the retail box version was available.  Stuck here as well.  I'm hoping there is a way.  I'll post if I figure it out.

Ok, I solved it (for my case)

i downloaded the shareware "Pacifist" app to get into the 3.7.2 admin download.

COntents-manual-contents-applications, then drag out RemoteDesktop.app into my Applications folder, and choose Update.

    ARD now works as expected.

NOw now if only Apple would make it for iOS.

On one machine, I'm having the same issue with the App store showing me ARD 3.7.2 as an update when I already have 3.7.2 installed.

    Here's hoping for a 3.8 Admin shortly...

Kevin, I am having the exact same problem, for the same reason - bought the boxed version before the Mac App Store existed, have a valid serial number, am up to date with 3.7.2, but Mac App Store now picks up the installed app but won't let me "update" because of an Apple ID mis-match, which is no mis-match at all, just that I was never afforded an opportunity to associate the purchased serial number with my Apple ID post-install. I really don't want to uninstall the originally purchased copy and re-purchase through the Mac App Store just to resolve this. Please share if you find a real solution. Thanks.

    @egilbert,

Thanks for sharing.  No solution yet.  Apple may need to look into this just like they did with many other apps when MAS was introduced.  Hopefully this is resolved soon.  I tried few recommendations mentioned in this thread but still no luck.

Remote Desktop is already installed on this computer. Choose Software Update from the Apple menu to check for available updates.

Yes, persistently stuck in my App Store updates too.

I had the same problem as the OP on another machine, and had to copy it from another machine already updated in the end.

Have you tried any of the manual downloads of later versions than your from here?

Worked a treat. Thanks. I recommend also grabbing the /Library/Widget from Pacifier as well.

Same thing here. For the same reasons.

After the disappearance in my purchased software list of OSX Server 3.2.2 and 2.2.1 (!!!!!) this weekend, now this !

I guess we have all have to upgrade to Yosemite and buy everything all over again, ARD, Server software ... it's cheap right, who gives a **** if you have to do this on more than 15 servers.

yes, these so called solutions are not for us (those that have 3.7.2 (372A19). The issue is really with the App store and the silly notification. Also, i've noticed some machines have different levels of ARD agent (3.7.1 vs 3.8), even though the app is 3.7.2.  In short, it's an apple mess that needs cleaning up.
