Cannot connect my MBP (2010 model) to HP monitor HPw1907

I have a mid year 2010 MBP and have connected Dell monitors to it in the past. I am trying to connect an HPw1907 monitor and my laptop does not detect the monitor. Any suggestions?

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.7.3)
