Macbook Air (mid-2012) won't pair with iPhone 6

I didn't see anyone ask this so far.

I checked the criteria for Continuity between devices. My Macbook Air and my iPhone 6 (obviously) meet the criteria. (By the way, I wasn't able to AirDrop ever because my devices wouldn't pair).

1) I make sure both the Macbook and iPhone has Hand-Off checked. I am running OS X Yosemite & iOS 8.

2) I turn Bluetooth on for both devices

3) Macbook shows up on iPhone list on Bluetooth and vice versa.

4) Try to connect on Macbook, clicked "Pair" the iPhone. The message comes up to check the code and pair if the code matches.

5) I check iPhone. Code matches.

6) I pair and it would say the connection was unsuccessful because the MacBook isn't within range. Ok. I did all suggestions Apple gave on the help page like moving the device closer or finding the interference. I cannot see any interference. Both the iPhone and Macbook connect to my same Bluetooth speaker perfectly fine (just for the record). And the phone is literally a few inches away from the Macbook.

That doesn't work, then I tried again and at one point, the popup message changed to "not connected because Macbook Air not supported".

Clearly, this doesn't just "work" for me and it's really annoying me. Is anyone else having this problem? I was looking forward to this feature for months.

Well, I know this is a radical idea, but you might read the thread and see the solutions that others have posted. You also can't say you have the same problem, because there are several different Bluetooth problems and solutions that have been described in the thread. You could also read the tip I posted 2 years ago, reposted here for your convenience: Bluetooth: Why can't I pair my iPhone or iPad with another iOS device or with my computer?

The fix, at least for my paired devices. For years, since purchase of my iPhone 6 years ago, it would never connect to my Macbook Air mid-2012 over bluetooth. Pairing again did NOT fix the problem. Yet, bluetooth from my iPhone worked with other things: my car, BT speakers, etc. Today, I dug into Bluetooth help icon ("?") and clicked "Connect to the Internet with a Bluetooth enabled phone" where I found an answer to my problem. I had been unaware of a Network setting that must be adjusted on my Macbook Air after pairing.

Sequence is...

On Macbook Air

Apple icon

System Preferences

Network

BlueTooth PAN

Device=your iPhone

Connect

After I did the above sequence in a few seconds, the connection now holds.

Instead of replying the same thing to the people who can't get through the hundreds of posts of people saying they have the same issue and have trouble navigating the thread, just say two words, "personal hotspot". Maybe add Bluetooth doesn't work and Apple doesn't care. Nobody cares about your condescending comment. It just more unnecessary reading to finally get to the answer. So for all the dumb people out there like me who hates reading people's need to type they don't know how to fix it, just say connect using personal hotspot! For the people that don't know how to fix it but need to be heard, hire a skywriting plane, more people can be reached that way. That is all!

I am having the same issue. iPhone 5s with macbook pro 15" mid 2012 (with bluetooth 4.0). iPhone has iOS 8.0.2 installed and Macbook Pro has Yosemite installed as of todays release. Calls can be made/received on the macbook, all iCloud settings are fine and content updates between the two devices. Bluetooth enabled on both (and music can be played via bluetooth on a separate bluetooth speaker), both devices are on the same wifi network (even on the same band), both have been restarted, I'm getting the same errors when trying to connect, and Handoff features are not working between the two. I understand the Handoff features function through the use of bluetooth, I'm wondering if Mondays release of iOS 8.1 helps with Bluetooth connectivity and therefore Handoff features...

For some reason I tried what you said and all the new yosemite and iOS 8 features work. So thank you! However, It is still not pairing with my iPhone 6. Same issues as Arestine93, except my iMessages, phone calls, and everything else works fine on my mac now. When I try to pair it still gives the code but then says

"Connection Unsuccessful

Make sure "Wes' MacBook Pro

is turned on and in range"

Which of Course it is.
