Q: Family sharing and purchases

I am wondering if there is a way to get around using one credit card while family sharing.

Example.  My brother wants me to share with him but I do not wish to use his credit card when I want to make purchases.  I want to still use my card.  That way I'm not always having to pay him back or have to take the chance on him not having the money if I wish to purchase something.  I would love to share with him but I don't want to share my card or share his.

Is there a way around this?

Just wondering

    Carlton,

Family Sharing works best when there is an adult (the "organizer") who is paying for the purchases of one or more kids.

What you are describing might work if you always make sure to have a credit balance on your account.  However, the situation would work more smoothly if you each buy your own stuff and use Home Sharing rather than Family Sharing.

I understand that.  I am the adult and so is my brother.  All of my family is married.  As brothers we would like to share the content without sharing credit card information.  If that is not possible I understand I just didn't know if it was possible.  We don't live in the same house as I am married with four kids and he's married at another house.  So homesharing wouldn't work.

Carlton,  OK, I understand.  That is somewhat outside the intended scope of family sharing.

If you really want to make a go of it, you could set up a separate Apple ID just to use for Family Sharing.  That would allow it to work, but be aware it would also likely run into frequent encounters with the 90-day lockout.

Maybe you can just buy a bunch of iTunes credit (gift cards) and use that for when you want to buy stuff with your Apple ID.
