Aug 6, 2015 5:16 AM in response to scoweby gerberdaisy, for me, it was a matter of turning on system preferences > file sharing. duh. for whatever reason, printer sharing was on, but not file sharing. didn't need to rename the computer. prior to turning on the file sharing, i restarted the ATV twice. not sure if it was a combination of both, or just the file sharing option. i figured it was something along these lines because the ATV was able to access other stations, music, etc. on the network, just not my iPhoto library. so i knew it wasn't a network or connection issue.

Sep 11, 2015 9:50 AM in response to itwatchdogby pbGuy,This suggested solution worked for me without having to take other, suggested steps.
If one is having a connection issue (after installing Yosemite) between iTunes Home Sharing, on the Mac, and Apple TV, attempt this simple, renaming step of one's Computer Name within the Sharing pref found in System Preferences.
[ Note: The Computer Name is not the same as the "name" one gives the hard disk, which mounts on the Desktop. So, one's Computer Name, as seen in Sharing, can / should be different from the hard drive / device name as seen in a Finder window Sidebar.]
BTW, I have always had Printer Sharing On and File Sharing Off. ...I did not change either; only did the change to Computer Name.
It's a bummer Yosemite caused this issue, but once fixed through this workaround, Home Sharing between one's Mac and Apple TV should remain solid. ...I'm using 10.10.4; so, I'm hoping they're no issues with further Yosemite updates or with El Capitan.

Dec 22, 2015 5:00 AM in response to crumvocby Robert Olding,This is the one that worked. I recently did a clean install of El Capitan and I was going nuts trying to figure why my iTunes Library wouldn't show up in my ATV.
I agree with crumvoc ... very odd of Apple to put this into two different places.
1st is under: iTunes -> Preferences -> Sharing- > Share my Library on my local network
2nd is under: File -> Home Sharing -> Turn on/off home sharing

Mar 20, 2016 6:09 AM in response to Desmond Limby jimhenning,I tried all the suggestions here and none worked. However, when I accepted a change to a different Norton Antivirus software, the problem resolved itself. So, it seems the antivirus was managing the firewall and continuing to block ports. I had opened the ports manually on my router as suggested in this thread but that didn't work.

Mar 26, 2016 6:56 AM in response to Desmond Limby ssig,I Was not able to connect to home sharing but realized that it was interference from a wifi extender plugged in too close to the Apple TV. Once I switched it to a different outlet it all worked!

Apr 3, 2016 4:19 PM in response to Desmond Limby abeagler,I tried most of the solutions in this discussion to no avail. It turned out to be a problem with the iTunes library, and what finally worked was rolling back my iTunes library to a previous one. I used the instructions here, though you could also start iTunes using option-click and tell it to construct a whole new library, if you're willing to deal with the hassles that go with that. FWIW, I'm running a 2012 Mac Mini with El Capitan:

- Close iTunes
- Head to your iTunes music folder (usually username > Music > iTunes)
- Drag the iTunes Library.itl file from this folder to your desktop
- Open the Previous iTunes Libraries folder
- Find the most recent iTunes Library[DATE].itl file. Drag it into the Music > iTunes folder
- Rename the file iTunes Library.itl
- Reopen iTunes
