Nov 14, 2014 2:34 PM in response to Desmond Limby nleegray,I spent 5 hours on the phone with Apple Care to the point of erasing my hard drive and re-installing everything on my iMac and MacBook with a support tech. My house-mate spent 4.5 hours on the phone with Microsoft tech support to do the same thing to his computer. My Apple TV will connect to the internet, but will not connect to my home sharing network. I, then spent 2 1/2 hours on the phone with an AppleTV support tech that resulted in completely restoring my AppleTV device. They sent me an email link to Apple TV: TCP and UDP ports and protocols used - Apple Support..
After spending almost 6 hours over the last 3 days on the phone with ATT U-verse tech support trying to get theses "ports" opened on the ATT router, I am done trying to get this fixed. They want to charge me $15 per month to have these ports opened under a 1-year contract. Apple personnel are not acknowledging a problem with Yosemite for this and a couple of other problems I am experiencing. I'm sure they will fix whatever is going on eventually. Guess I'll go outside, play with sticks and kick rocks........

Nov 15, 2014 7:01 AM in response to Maria belliaby Chanakaf,Hello,
Can you please explain this a bit more. What specifically should I unblock. Or should I unblock all. I have even tried turning off the Firewall. Still the Aperture photos won't sync or can be viewed from ATV.
Thanks for any help.

Nov 15, 2014 7:27 AM in response to Chanakafby nleegray,Assuming that I know much about these issues would be a mistake. You should perhaps read the article on the link I provided. I had to read this article verbatim to 3 different techs with ATT. The issue may very well be with Yosemite as ATT is clueless and just wants to charge me more money for this "service". I'm still kicking rocks in front of my house and am pretty frustrated with the whole situation. I only want to have access to my music to play in our living room. As I mentioned, I can watch the movies I have purchased from iTunes through the internet part of Apple TV; just can't connect to our home sharing network. Most (if not all) of the music I own was not purchased from iTunes; rather I ripped over 1000 CD's to my computer and then added them to my iTunes library. Everything was working fine until after I updated to the Yosemite OS. I have also had issues installing an update for my Logos Bible Study software; also due to Yosemite. I'm sure Apple has had an indiscriminate amount of input from their loyal consumers, of which I am one. I have confidence that they will fix whatever the issue is in due time, just not as quickly as I would like for them to. Hope this helps.....

Nov 15, 2014 8:55 AM in response to jamestheanimatorby lynxster,Go to System Preferances
Sharing
Change Computer Name
Then try to connect
I did this and the time it takes to connect my '11 MBA to my ATV over my 5s-iphone network is now normal -- quick.
I imagine that when I updated my MBA to MacOS 10, the mac's Network name was changed -- to a very surprising long name:
"lynxsters-macbookair-02-this-a-really-long-name-.-what-can-this-up-date-do-to-m ake-the-name-longer?-who-cares---just-keep-adding-words"

Nov 16, 2014 6:42 PM in response to Desmond Limby davidham,I had this problem and fixed it!
TL;DR: I changed my computer name in System Preferences > Sharing, and then in System Preferences > Sharing, I activated Remote Apple Events.
This was after trying the following, none of which worked:
- Restarting ATV
- Resetting ATV
- Restoring ATV to system settings
- Rebuilding iTunes Library
- Checking firewall settings
- Restarting both AirPorts in the house
But changing the computer name seemed to make the ATV re-acquire it, and not it works fine.
Good luck to everyone else!

Nov 21, 2014 5:43 PM in response to maxdmoserby Sandyberg,Having the same issues. Changing the computer name works....for a while but then the same problem happens. On my 5th computer and iTunes library name now but having to re enter homesharing details each time is time consuming and ridiculous. The wife is not happy that it keeps breaking (blames me....).
I am also having the same problems as others with the Remote app on iPhone and iPad not working intermittently and requiring a hard reset of the iOS device and the ATV to get it working. I am also seeing problems with accessing my shared library from an iPad - when i access it the iTunes app on the iPad crashes and restarts. I think these issues are related and are all to do with the home sharing/shared library integration of iTunes 12, Yosemite and iOS 8. All this worked before I installed these and now none of these work properly.....
I have followed all the tips in the thread, many times. Am now in the process of restoring my ATV with the new 7.0.2 software, assigning everything on my network a static IP address and ensuring everything is on the 2.4 Ghz network rather than split between this and the 5Ghz, just to try and rule out any possibilities. After 2 clean installs of Yosemite, 4 clean installs of iOS 8 on iPad and iPhone and ATV restored 3 times, I have now wasted probably 20 hours of my life trying to fix something that wasn't broken before. I feel like I just bought a PC again....
Hoping for a fix soon......or I may just go and buy that PC.....

Nov 23, 2014 7:11 PM in response to Sandybergby GuitarManFL,Root cause was the same issue as described by others, namely upgrading to Yosemite. My upgrade was from Mountain Lion. During the upgrade (as pointed out in the post by paddy.williams on 29 Oct 2014), Yosemite renamed my computer. As a result, Apple TV could not find the name that was previously used. Here are the steps I followed:
- Applied the latest software update (23 Nov 2014) to Apple TV;
- Renamed my Mac (System Preferences > Sharing); and
- In System Preferences > Sharing, I activated Remote Apple Events (as posted by davidham on 16 Nov 2014.
Hope this helps someone navigate the maze more quickly! Thanks to those who blazed the trail before us.

Nov 24, 2014 3:51 AM in response to Dufomacby Sandyberg,It does work....for a while...for me at least.
After a couple of days/sleep cycles (ATV not me...) then it is all broken again.
ATV cannot see my iMac library again, iTunes on iMac can 'see' the ATV (it is visible as an airplay item) but it cannot wake the ATV. ATV is sometimes visible in iOS remote app, sometimes not but it can never be woken up.
Computer name changed (many times), fresh installs and restores, Remote Apple Events turned on, ATV ethernet connected to Time Capsule (tried it wifi, no better), all items have static IPs.
Is anyone else seeing the problems reoccur after a period of time? Arrrrggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
