address browser in Yosemite Mail - it's GONE?

Arrgghh - WHY does Apple do stuff like this?

I have long been a user of Apple Mail, and I ALWAYS have the Address Browser window open down the left side of the app. From the Window/Address Browser menu item. I could flick from one group of contacts to another, I could see which email address was being used - and select which one I wanted to use - and I could select multiple contacts.

But in the new Yosemite Mail - IT'S GONE!!!???

I have searched high and low, and I cannot find any way to display a list of contacts' email addresses in the Mail app.

Having the Contacts app open at the same time just doesn't cut it - it doesn't display just a lit of email addresses, for example, like the Address Browser did.

This is one change that I am now really regretting from the upgrade to Yosemite.

My Mail app has been CRIPPLED! How the **** can you have a mail app that doesn't have direct access to your list of email addresses from directly within the app?

What am I missing here? Where has the Address Browser gone, and how do I get it back?

And WHY, for ****'s sake, does Apple keep on DOING stuff like this - like getting rid of the sidebar in iTunes, for example? Why remove something that works? Is it just change for the sake of change?

BUT I NEED MY ADDRESS BROWSER BACK IN MAIL.... aarrgggghhhhh!!!!!!!

Yes (and thanks) - I wasn't intending to suggest it as a 'solution' but in effect a temporary measure until (I hope) Apple gets it sorted.

Another odd feature is the change in the sort box at the top of the message listing. When you highlight a sender (say) and then hit the 'From' heading you got all the messages from him or her with the one you highlighted showing clearly. Now when you hit 'Find' - or 'Subject' - the message vanishes and you have scroll through to locate the list! Another retrograde move! Grrrr!

Well stated. In the past I have also relied heavily on the address panel on Apple Mail and really don't like the silly way they have it now. To select a dozen or more email addresses using the "new" method is not only frustrating but very time consuming. Bad move Apple. Need to get it fixed and soon. And yes, I have notified Apple of my dissatisfaction with the new way of doing things.

Apple Support are you listening to this ….?

What in the world was your program team thinking and did you ever hear about meeting customer requirements, usability, functionality, etc.? Is Apple too focused on playing games with the OS so that you can make a new release by moving **** around and deleting things – real cute.

You have just disabled and de-featured a critical part of your OS and offering. Now get busy and fix it. If you need help let me know.

Oh, and be sure to pass this on to your product manager, if he or she is still working there.

PS: You also need to go back and fix iTunes since you guys butchered that app also.

Cheers

I don't know if anyone else has noticed - but if you go to Contacts and click on one the groups and then right click on the group it offers the option of sending an email to the group. This will go out as 'undisclosed recipients'. However, if you create the email first and drag the 'group' into the 'To' heading it will reveal the names. Thus the best way is to select your group first - then create the email. Alternatively drag the group into the bcc box and send the email to yourself - the old fashioned way! I suggest experimenting a bit before creating any embarrassment. Of course this way of creating an email might have been a feature previously that I'd not noticed as it wasn't then needed!

This is still only a way around until Apple sort it out - not a solution! I too have sent pleading messages on the feedback wotsit.

Cheers.

I'm with you. I hope Apple brings the old feature back ASAP. Meanwhile, I've found another work around (not a fix) that takes more time than it used to but is faster than the "new, improved" Apple way.

I create an email or select an email to forward that I want to send to multiple addresses. I go to my Address Book and hold down the Command key while I select the multiple addresses I want to send the document to. After I've selected the addresses I go to Edit on the tool bar, hit Copy, then go to the address field in the document I want to use (To:, CC:, or BCC:) and Paste the selections.

Seems to work OK but is still several steps longer than it was previously but not as frustrating as the wonderful "new, improved" Apple way.

Yeah there's are number of ways to work around it. They're called workarounds is because the feature that that worked perfectly was removed for some unknown reason.

I created a couple of text edit files with my groups email addresses and when I want to send to one of the groups I opened a text file and drag the names / addresses into the TO, CC or BCC field. But that's BS, it should be as simple as it was in the past…2 clicks.

😠

After placing a group into the appropriate box (To, CC, or BCC) I discovered that there were individual recipients missing from the group, Since the individuals are no longer in alphabetic order it can be a bit of a task going through a large list to see who is missing. Just thought I would share. I have sent a feedback to Apple. I'm going to download Thunderbird and see if how it works.

If you highlight one name in the group in Contacts, then choose Command-A or Edit/Select All, then drag the group into the appropriate To:/Cc:/Bcc: area, the group will be added in alphabetical order. Dragging the group name does not put the recipients in alphabetical order.

I just upgraded to Yosemite and my address book/panel is gone, too! If I want to forward an email, I have to add each recipient one at a time.

Is Apple going backwards? They have made things more difficult, rather than simpler.

REALLY disappointed with Yosemite so far. The look is simplistic. Flat, unimaginative icons. Macs were known for great graphics, now my iMac looks like some child's play tablet.
